V6 V8 swap 1st Timer

Hello everyone,
Just recently purchased a 91RS V6 117k, 3.23 Rear

I've never done anything like this before, but have tons of mechanical experience from 20+ years of Appliance, HVAC & Home Repairs.

I've been on the site for a few weeks now and examined hours of reading & absorbing the material. Kudo's to you all, opinions from the entire spectrum and budgets as well.

Plan -
Street Machine that will compete in shows, ocassional 1/4 mile runs
Engine - 350 approx 400hp
Trans - 700r4 currently - upgrade to 200r4
Suspension - Upgrade all components
Rear - 3.23 Currently - upgrade to ????????
Paint - Change color to candy gloss ????

My current questions are as follows.

1. How do I purge fuel lines & tank that is 1/2 full? Siphon Tank etc...

2. During removal of v6 block is it necessary to place the car on Jack stands?
or can I remove the block directly from the bell housing?

3. Would you recomend a custom wire harness for the new v8 or modify the
existing harness? (I read opinions on salvage as well)

4. Carb vs Injection ??
I've seen the pros & cons of both. Just a bit concerned about the
legality of crusing with an incorrect emmissions vehicle on a cross state
tour etc........

5. What suspension upgrades would your recomend and in what order would you do them?

Thanks
Looking forward to long time on the forum.

Welcome to thirdgen.org.

1. It isn't easy to siphon the tank. Opening the fuel line and running the pump would be fairly simple.

2. You want to remove the engine and transmission together. It can be done with the car on the ground, although a floor jack or something under the tranny with the tranny crossmember removed is usually the little easier way.

3. Need to answer #4 first.

4. A factory injection system is the only legal system. Have you considered an LT1?

3. If going EFI, go with a salvage harness.

5. Subframe connectors, poly bushings everywhere. Those first. Boxed or tubular lower control arms, aftermarket torque arm, panhard bar. After that you're looking at stuff like tubular K-member, tubular A-arms, more exotic stuff.
