92 Rs 305tbi to Carb'd 355

Alright, so here is the story..

I've owned this car for almost 3 years now. (purchased 6-5-06 registered 6-6-06)

Then kinda toyed with it for a while just body parts mostly, and Then took it to the drag strip, ran a 17.2@5800ft best one night, the next week went back up after adjusting my timing because i found out i was over 12* off. ran a 16.59 (stock)

I'm sure i could buy some bolt on's and run faster, but i Happened to have half the parts to build a 355. So i decided why not. My goal is to be in the High 12's to Low 14's Range Hoping for at least a 13sec car.

I am also gonna get myself a posi to throw in the rear end, and a transmission mount with separate torque arm bracket. and a New radiator and might have a custom exhuast installed or might end up getting the y-pipes not sure yet.

So Please Enjoy:

Started buying parts, and finally got everything i needed

So i tore the motor out, (now for sale)

And Started my 355 build

Starting with a 350block
We had it bored .30 over and prepped about 3 years ago.

so finial CID is 355.

Don't forget to bend those lock tabs over.

What cam is it specifically?

What heads are you using?

Re: 92 Rs 305tbi to Carb'd 355

Yeah i need to get some locktite, so those bolts are only finger tight to hold the gear on.

Then i will tighten those and bend the tabs over.

The Cam is Comp Cams part number XE268H

This is a link to it.
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...x?csid=86&sb=2

And I plan on using Double Hump Heads off my dad's Truck That he just let sit there for a while.

Has Screw In Studs. New Springs, Good 3 Angle Valve Job decent set up for what i am doing eventually i will dump some more money into them, but they are good enough for me.

That's a good cam.

A set of Vortecs upgraded to handle the lift would run circles around the double humps. Okay to use them, but I wouldn't put any more money in them.

Re: 92 Rs 305tbi to Carb'd 355

Yeah, I'm going to probably get a good set of AFR's eventually to toss on there, but the whole build started as a 4h project for my girl, so i'm just trying to get it together before then. Then save for the parts I want the most. Like a sweet set of heads, and maybe a forged bottom end with a 9:1 cr so i can throw a twin screw super charger on top... (but thats just day dreaming)

Sure. Standard GM Vortecs.

Might want to verify what springs they're using (probably stock truck springs) and valve travel (probably at the ragged edge of .480").

Have you looked into the sdparts.com upgraded Vortec head & intake kit? Has all the parts you need to install them, a pretty good deal.

Assuming you're going carb:

http://www.sdparts.com/product/SD806...RPMAirGap.aspx

Vortecs need self-aligning rocker arms. The ones you already have won't work unless you install guide plates. The head kit comes with standard stamped self-aligning rocker arms.

I know some spots need to be re-hit... but mostly they are spots you wont see once the body is on.

Re: 92 Rs 305tbi to Carb'd 355

well i'd like to see 300 at the wheels.. but i know with these heads.. it might be rather limiting..

I'll eventually switch to vortec. But the funds at the moment point more towards "sticking the way"

and i'd like to run my car at the drag strip this season, then over the winter probably paint the body.. unless my guy wants to do body work on weekends or something...

Then get some vortecs, or maybe try and save for a great set of AFR's.

Re: 92 Rs 305tbi to Carb'd 355

Got My Intake Put On and Letting the Sealer Dry over Night then Tighten it, Also put my timing chain cover, timing tab, harmonic balancer, crank pulley, a/c, water pump, alt., power steering pulleys all on. Then just placed the Valve Covers on Too see the whole look.

Was going to use my Holly Intake but it was pissing me off cause i couldn't get the 2 center bolts on each side in... i'm thinking its not for these style Heads... but i could have just been strugling with them for a different reason... instead using this Edelbrock Torker II. and Trying to find a different one shortly.

You don't need the stuff that goes to the passenger fenderwell. It can be removed without being cut.

what do you mean by that? pretty much every wire runs down to the pass fender well?

all the wires eventually run to the pass fender well...

Sorry, missed this when you last posted.

All of the ECM wires run to the passenger fenderwell. That's what I was saying.

The other wires go through the firewall on the driver side. The heater wires pass through by the heater.

Good job, it looks & sounds great. I'm debating on what size motor to get for my 91 RS. I can get a 400 that has been worked for $800, but I don't know how many miles are on it. Probably just go with a 350 also & build it up that way I at least know what I have .
