Re: Corvette L98 into 1991 Z28 Trans ?????

The engine is no different than a Camaro engine and will bolt right in. What's so special about the Vette transmission? It won't have a torque arm mount on the tailshaft. Why don't you just use the F-body transmission?

A "universal crossmember" won't fit into a third gen. The best thing to do is buy an aftermarket torque arm with a crossmember specific to the type of transmission you want to use. www.spohn.net is one vendor that produces such a thing.

Take the output shaft housing off of the '91 transmission and put it on the Vette transmission (assuming the '91 was auto).

Yes they do. http://www.spohn.net/shop/1982-1992-...nsmission.html , along with their crossmember gets the job done.

Re: Corvette L98 into 1991 Z28 Trans ?????

Do you know this for a fact five7kid That a 1991 700 R4 output shaft will bolt right up to a 1986 Corvette 700R4, I can't find this out any where, having a parts manger looking into this for me. That would be nice seeing that i need to some how hook up the Torque arm
Thanks

Re: Corvette L98 into 1991 Z28 Trans ?????

The 700R4 should be identical for both cars. The difference is that the third gen needs a different tailshaft housing because the torque arm needs to bolt to it. Simply installing the third gen tailshaft housing onto any other 700R4 will allow you to use it in any third gen.

If you go with an aftermarket torque arm with crossmember, you don't need to change the tailshaft housing because the new torque arm will attach to the crossmember instead of the transmission.

GM's idea of mounting the torque arm off the transmission wasn't a good idea. Mounting it off the crossmember is much better.

As it stand right now with the 700 R4 from the 1986 Corvette the output shaft has no way to blot up to the cross member in a third gen (FYI)

Tailshaft housing, not the output shaft.

The mount is part of the f-body output housing.

Re: Corvette L98 into 1991 Z28 Trans ?????

the spline count maybe 27 on a 86 700r4. i think it was mid year 86 that gm put 30 spline over the 27. if it is a 27 you should use the f body 700r4.

Re: Corvette L98 into 1991 Z28 Trans ?????

Thanks five7kid, I should be getting a tail shaft housing from Camaro Plus (used parts) up here in NE, so I'm hoping that the torque arm and the cross members blots up nicely. I hope the spline count doesn't make a difference as camlass has posted

Thanks again

The input shaft changed from 27 to 30 spline in '84.
