V6, what's that?

I'm working on putting a big block into my race car. V8 to V8.

87 IROC-Z Pro ET Bracket Race Car and knocking on the SuperPro ET class
383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas
LS6 Big Block buildup now in progress

Best results before the engine blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857
Best corrected ET: 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87
Best corrected MPH: 126.10
Best 60 foot: 1.662

Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!

Checkout 88 Camaro 427's page. He's got the full SBC to BBC Thirdgen article and much more on his site. Good luck, and watch out some people have been having problems with Hookers BBC Super Comp headers for thirdgens. But I'm sure you already know that.

i'm putting a v6 in my race car. v8 to v6. other than rewireing everything and making new brackets for everything it isn't too bad a job.

I only used Miles's web site as a guideline. I won't have any clearances problems since it's a race car. No heater/ac in the way. No wiper motor. No worry about hood clearance etc. If I have to I can even cut the firewall back. Headers shouldn't be a problem either. No worrys about an exhaust system with open headers.

It's just that when this was the first post of this new group, The group description was V6 to V8 swaps. It's been changed since then

I suppose it could be any swap if someone has enough fabrication skills. How about a 500 CID Caddy engine between the fenders. Easiest way to get 500 HP.

I did talk to Miles about this a while back and I believe he said that majority of the problems he was facing was the motor mounts weren't the ones that elivated the header problems...Stephen, if you double check, I think there are the right mounts that will solve any clearance problems...

I've never seen them but I've read that the third gen mounts are different than normal GM mounts. My 383 engine was using the standard clam shell mounts and the big block will be using solid mounts. I'd like to use a motor plate instead but haven't decided yet.

Yep, changed the description when I read your post. I guess being vague kinda sucks

Nope, they are all the same (except for ~'68 - earlier). I've owned Chevy trucks, Caprice, Corvette, Camaros (3rd gen and 2nd gen), etc ... and they are all the same.

Then why does Moroso sell different mounts for camaro/firebirds? They offer 3 different types for them. 74-81, 82-92 and 93-97. Are these different in some way from the regular solid mounts?

The bolt pattern from the motor mount to the frame is the only difference, but the style is the same "clam shell". I thought that's what you were refering to, sorry.
