thinking of going to a 383
I am fairly new to the whole field but i wanted to know if i am going to be building a 383, should I be thinking towards pulling the computer and going carbed or can my tpi fuel the 383 adequately. I dont have the money (right now anyways) to think about mini ram so where should I go with the fueling ?

OK,
Just wanted to see if I could remember my password. I have not been here in a while.
IMO, I would go with a carb setup. Thats what I am currently doing. There is a guy in our club(SFFBC) with a 383 in our club in his 4th gen, and he has had nothing but fuel problems, and said he would not have had them if he went with carb.
I know Summit sells the crank to build the 383. I happen to find the entire engine real cheap ($750).
I knowticed that on ebay, there was one that was selling for $900 complete. I dont know if its still going on, but that is also a good deal.
Budy of mine has a 227, and pulled a 13.8 on just the motor, and a 12.8 when he sprayed. He is also selling his engine.
Good luck,
FireChicken

i have a 383 with an edelbrock 600cfm carb.. it is QUITE torqy(if that is a word). maby a bigger carb would give me some more power, but im satisfied w/this. ive never tried any EFI on a 383, but ive heard that a TPI setup wouldnt be ideal. just what i hear though.
I also think that you'll be hapier with a carb, maybe a 750 though...
You just tie-wrap those wires your not using and put them out of the way..
You WILL need to get an electric fuel pump though, like the Holley "red"..

I don't have tpi...yet. but... someone help me out here, i could be wrong... your m.a.f. tpi can adjust to as much as approximately 115% of the stock flow. i don't know, maybe a 383 flows more than 115% what a 350 does.
Well here is my response. If you dont want to spend enough money to go in debt, GO WITH A CARB! Me and a friend did our cars at the same time he has a 90 iroc and went with a carb on his 383. He is running 11's for under 3600.He bought a bottom end from speed o motive, used bowtie cast heads,373's,holley 750,victor intake,th350 w/3500 stal. I started with just a 383 with afr 190 heads. The bottom end and heads were 3800. I used the stock tpi with l98 cam, everything else was stock.(273 gears, 700r4 trans.) It went 13.6@103 I think, its been a while. I added miniram(1200), made it a 5spd(3500),holley 58mm tb(370),24inj(250),342gears(200),crane cam(260),and alot of other bs. Im running faster than in my sig but not 11's. To get into the 11's im going to have to spend another 1500. You can run the tpi pump with a carb, you just have to use a bypass type regulator.
