just found a 327 vette motor (ls1?. anyway, i was planning on putting it in my 87 iroc. got everything figured out on how to install it but i need to know if it will bolt right up to the tranny or if i will have to change that too. not sure what tranny it is other than auto w/ overdrive. oh yeah. and we have this motor doing 400 hp. sooo, i should probably change the rearend. suggestions? any help will be much appreciated. thanks.

At what rpm does it make 400hp? If you plan on using it as a street engine it will only be operated below 5000 rpm anyway. The 327 is just a destroked 350. It's designed to work at higher rpms.
It's a better choice than a 305 but a 350 would be even better.

Is it a 327 or a LS1?? (An LS1 is 346 c.i.)
The LS1 doesn't look anything like a small block chevy.
If it is, you would need the trans (the bellhousings are different) and all the computer and fuel management equipment off the donor car.
If its a 327 from an earlier Vette the heads shouldn't have any acc. bolt holes in them to mount the alt, etc.
