350 swap with out emissions

hi. i have an 84 camaro with a 305. It runs like hell the check engine light is on and fixing what ever problems the computer is detecting would probably fix the pore running engine but the engine is still old with high mileage and potentially abused in its past life so seems like it would be more beneficial to me to swap in a low millage 350. i hate that emissions stuff it clutters the engine bay and since my car is so old i think over 24 yrs the emissions can be removed with out it being a federal a fence but emissions arnt tested here so i could care less if im wrong about the 24 yr thing i still want to remove it. i also want to remove that computerized carb and ac. ive searched on here on found lots of stuff on removing the smog pump but not much on all the other stuff and not much info on removing the computer. some one sead something about removing all the ac and computer emissions stuff would remove most of the hoses and pipe and wiring under the hood. if i can remember thay sead the only wiring needed was for the head lights. can some one give me some info on this swap. like about the carb and distributor, removing the unneeded wiring and removing the ac and smog stuff.

im looking for the engine bay to be clean like this one.Name: engine001.jpg

p.s. id also like to switch to a serpentine belt instead of that v belt. how would i go about doing that.

thanks for the help this will be my first engine swap and ill be asking for all the help i can get from friends and you guys on the forum so thanks for an help or suggestions.

Re: 350 swap with out emissions

While legally it is required to keep your emissions equipment, it is possible to convert the car to "old school" carbed setup. The harness on the passenger side is strictly for the computer, so you can get it to come out without hacking/cutting any wires and affecting the rest of the electrical system. Gauges are off of the driver side harness, so you should be set there.

There is a lot of info on this board regarding this kind of swap (mostly in the carb section), definitely worth a look around to see what people have had to do in the past

I swapped in a GM crate, 350 HO Deluxe (350/330). The only wiring on my 85 that required saving on the pass side was was for the back-up lights, IIRC (blue and green wires seen in the first pic in the following link) and the cruise control should you wish to save it:

Here's my write-up of the serp swap:

Re: 350 swap with out emissions

okay so taking the computer and wiring harness out should be easy, no cutting or splicing. I have an automatic and i checked out the carb section to find mostly stuff on tpi to carb not much ccc to non-ccc. but i heard of getting a carb with a secondary vacuum and a distributor with vacuum advance and fuel pressure regulators and something about a toque converter lock up. what will i all need i dont know what the secondary vacuum and vacuum advance is all about could someone please explain that. other then a carb and distributor ill need a ac delete box and that should be easy to do from what ive read. ok ive decided against converting the v belt but can i just remove the belts going to the smog pump and ac compressor. and i cant find much on removing the emissions. Thanks for the help

Re: 350 swap with out emissions

ok so i was looking at summit and found these:

Summit Racing carb, intake, and air Cleaner - $379.95
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/CMB-03-0193/

Summit Distributor - $89.95
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-850001-1/

MSD Coil - $31.95
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MSD-5526/

Painless Torque Converter Lock Up kit - $161.95
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PR...5&autoview=sku

Dose that sound like every thing i need? will this all work together? Looking at my Chilton book i want to remove the PCV, EEM, EGR, AIR. Can i remove all this and just plug the holes in mu valve covers and stuff? Thanks for the help its been much appreciated.

Link doesn't work. My guess is it has a Summit intake manifold and Edelbrock carb.

Don't remove the PCV. You need to remove vapors from the crankcase, and the PCV is the best way to do that. Meaning you can't just plug the holes in u valve covers and stuff.

What's "EEM"?

Re: 350 swap with out emissions

Oh yea my bad so i just need the distributor not the coil. the first link on my computer opens but yes its a summit intake and carb. i was using my Chilton book for the terms so the EEC is evaporative emission controls system. its that black plastic tank that fumes from the gas tank go to. ok so i need the pvc stuff can i remove the rest? im using my Chilton book under the emissions section. is there anything else but the pcv that need to remain there?
