Hello everyone i am new to engine swapping and know little about what stay and what goes??? lol but anyway heres my dillema.

I have a 1987 Camaro Z28 with a stock 305 and T5 Transmission in it which recently i've pulled out (the engine not tranny) and am planning on installing a GM 350 block,# 14016379, which came out of a 77-79 GM Passenger car i believe from looking up the engine codes.
now my friend says all i need is a different flywheel to bolt it up to my T5 trans is that all i need?? if so, what flywheel should i get???

OH, i also have another 350 block which came out of a 93-94 GMC 1500 ext cab would i be better off putting it in my car?? if so can i switch TBI to Carb on it just by changing manifolds? or do i have to do much more????

the '93-94 engine is a lot closer in design to the'87 305
-it has the same crank and intake bolt patterns as the
87 305-should be almost a bolt in
the '93 engine will also have a roller cam(87 305 should
too)

 

Trucks didn't get roller lifters until 1996. However, the earlier blocks should be cast for it, and may or may not be machined for it.

 

I would go with the late model. The early one is a very low compression engine. Just Transfer over your intake and accessories. May have to switch over the flywheel as well.

 

what kinda tranny was the "new" motor bolted to? i seem to recall something about the crank snout being different between auto and manual trannys. can someone confirm this or am i dreaming again?

 

So everyone agrees that I should Drop the engine from the 1994 GMC Sierra 1500 into My camaro Right???

Can i take out My Camaro's ECM and all of its wiring, will everything else work right???

What Flywheel And Clutch Kit Would be best for this also????

OH, And anybody want to buy Parts from a 1987 Iroc-Z28 Without engine,trans,rear axle.

 

Ok Yes the Carb and intake will swap out. Use your existing flywheel and clutch etc if the truck has a different one. There is a pilot bearing issue but I believe it is only with the 6 speed tremec.

 

the edelbrock manifold is on the early block will it still fit on the older block?? it also has a msd distibutor can i swap this also???
and also im getting a new flywheel and clutch kit any suggestions what type, size ,diameter, etc???

I'd use the later engine, personally.

No, you need the ECM to run the computer carb and distributor.

It'll fit the block, but it won't bolt directly to the heads. In '87, they switched from having all of the intake mount bolts at the same angle, to having the center two intake mount bolts on each side at 72 degrees.

A good plan would be to rebuild your '87 305 heads and put them on the '94 350 block. Better heads, although you'd still have the same intake mount issue.

Not if you're using a computer controlled system.

Stock replacements for the 305 application.

 

not to steal this thread but what would the compression be if the 87 305 heads were used on a truck 350?

so Can i put the heads on and change the ignition/manifold over to the msd distributor with different intake and put a carburetor on it??? thus removing all the ecm and its wiring???? because i hate dealing with computer bullcrap....

 

Yes.

The nice thing about messing with computer stuff now is you won't have to mess with it later. Can't say that about non-computer stuff.
