Would like specs on L69
Would like specs on L69
Well. I'm getting a 84 trans am this summer for like 1000 bucks. mecanicals are pretty good, but I was wondering about the specs on that 4bbl HO 305. Also, can you put on 1.6 roller rockers with the stock pistons in there and have no problems with the clearance? (have a couple questions) also, it should be that borg warner T5 in there, right? it is a 5 speed. and, do you disconnect vacuum advance to set the timing?

L69 was the highest output carb 305 with an advertised 190 HP. Ive heard they supposed to be able to get into the 14.9's stock ....but I doubt yours will. Yes you have to disconnect the vacuum advance to set timing and a T5 trans would be my best guess

There is no vacuum advance, the computer controls the advance. To set the timing, disconnect the four prong connector on the driver's side of the distributor, loosen the distributor hold down bolt, adjust timing, retighten hold down bolt, reconnect four prong connector. Yes, you can use 1.6 rockers with no problem, but if you want to use rollers, you'll need tall valve covers. Yes, it's a non-WC T5 (if OEM). The had the option of posi and 3.73 gears

posi was optional. compression was 9.5:1. I would cam it instead of rockers, although the L69 in the f-bodies got a better cam than the cam in the Monte SS.
T5 was used 83-92; 84-92 was hydraulic clutch setup.

Well. I'm sure a cam swap is pretty involved affair, so if I do that I'm gonna make sure I have the beans to put some aluminimum heads on there. I was just intrested in the rockers caue I could do that without too much trouble. I don't know what I should do with the car though, I have a daily '86 camaro so I might gut the inside and turn it into a weekend car.
It may be involved but uhh a cam is only 80bucks(summit brand) Aluminum Heads are $900 on up. Plus the flat tappet cam in the car now is probably worn because it's not nearly as tough as a roller cam. Some lobes are probably giving very little lift. A cam swap isn't the hardest thing in the world and if you have a daily driver, then it would be fun to tear down the other car for a weekend, maybe that's just me though
