305 to 383 worth it?

I am thinking about putting a 383 in my 85' 5 speed t5 world class transmission Trans Am. It currently has a 305 in it. I'm wondering what mods i would have to make and how much it would cost to make the 383 engine work.

I am planning on road racing this car and am wondering which would be the better engine for doing this. I have heard that since the 305 will run higher rpms it might be better for road racing.

Thanks for your help.

better check your rule book first ,i was thinking scca had a 310 limit. for road racing a strong engine is one of the last things you need (all things considered). you'll need the very best brakes a nd rotors you can find, all the suspension parts and up grades and a good manual trans.

Absolutely correct. 310 is SCCA's limit, they also require an edelbrock intake, a holley carb, a certain cam spec and a compression limit. concentrate on the chassis and safety before you delve into the motor.
For example, i race a 1969 Triumph Spitfire in G-production at Waterford Hills in mich.
i set thye recoed lap time last summer for my class with a 1:15.82. The AS (class for camaros and mustangs) record is a 1:16.8, and my spitfire has 110 horsepower!! Handling and braking are HUGE!!
Also if you are building a roadrace 310, Engines by JB build some kickin motors, i will look for a phone# GOOD LUCK

Better off to upgrade to a T56 6-speed.

The T-5 is marginal behind a 350.

305's sometimes get the better of a T-5

Spend some $$$ on upgrades if you do a T-5

What kind of road racing are going to be doing...Open?
