i normally post on another thirdgen board but thought id check yall out and see whats going on...
i have a 83' z28 with 3.42 posi and 4 wheel disc brakes...
i have 2 454's, a 73' block and a 81'... im building the 81' cause is already bored .030 and is only 2 thousand miles off of a rebuild...
i just ordered a bunch of parts from jegs the other day... ARP waveloc rod bolts, main bearing cap bolts - its a 2 bolt btw, flywheel and convertor bolts...
i also ordered a moroso oil control kit, i dont know if its anygood but it was only $35 so i figured why not... it consists of a louvered windage tray, and a crankshaft scraper... i also bought the moroso kit that puts screening over your oil galley drain holes, to keep trash from getting in the pan...
i also bought a TCI 10" street fighter converter, its suppose to have a stall speed between 3000 and 3500 rpm's...
i also bought a mr. gasket 2 quart extra transmission pan and a B&M shift kit for my TH400...
i also have a lunati cam kit... the cam has a 295* duration, .550 lift and 108* lobe separation... i also have the 140 @ 1.875 lunati triple springs...
i got a kool flower water pump...
a edelbrock performer intake... i know i need a better intake, but i got this for $50 at a car show... used... id like to buy a rpm air gap intake when i get my income tax...
and i got the moros engine mounts and brackets...
ive yet to put any of my parts on the 454 yet... probably by next weekend ill have the shortblock put pack together and maybe in the car...
i still gotta finish cleaning out the engine bay and paint it... which im fixing to do in a few minutes...
its far from running yet... i still need headers and a better carb, i currently have a quadrajet 750 - which im not using btw.
i figure, as long as there arent too many rainouts at work i should have it on the road and running in two months...

If your using the starter from your smallblock, you'll need to change your starter nose to the staggered starter bolt pattern. SBC flywheel is 12 3/4" and the 454 is 14". I picked up my nose for $12 Canadian! just call around to any starter rebuild shops in your area, they SHOULD carry them.

nope... the 73' i bought was complete... starter, alternator, power steering pump etc... the engine had 48k original miles on it. i bought it from a guy i work with, it came out of a 73' winnebago... and it was running when we pulled it, so some of this stuff should last me a while... this is just my little project anyway... my daily driver is a 91 rs...
the reason im going with the 81' block instead of the 73' is cause when i disassembled it i found that a wrist pin shifted and scored one cylinder up pretty bad on ones side... i guess a lock or something broke... so i bought my friends 81' that had a fresh rebuild and was running for $400... to have the 73' machined would cost me $300 and about another $500 for new pistons and rings and bearings... plus the heads on the 73'have smaller valves... while the heads on the 81' have a 3 angle valve job and were machined for 2.19 and 1.88 valves...
it made more sense money wise to go with the 81'...
i also have a brand new gm hei distributor...
i just have to put all my accessories on the 81' block...
