roller cam wont fit unless you get a retro fit kit. go with a hydraulic flat tappet Xtreme energy 252 or somthing with new valve springs

then go with my cam.....Im warning you that this is a hearty cam for a 305, or a 350 for that matter. If you want a rough idle and have a 5 speed then I guess this will do it.

You've got conflicting desires here. In your original post, you said you wanted good low & midrange power but keep it a daily driver - no problem there. But then, you said you wanted a rough idle - not compatible with your original idea on any count. Your current manifold, carb, heads (and I assume stock exhaust) are not compatible with vortec's cam, either.
If you want the first part along with a rough idle, create a small vacuum leak on one intake manifold runner, and you'll get all your wishes.

The one I'd recommend for going in a LG4 is the Comp XE262H flat-tappet. There's no point in putting $600 worth of roller stuff in that motor, basically it's a very low bang for the buck mod in that application. The 262 gives good power, and will work OK with the stock heads.
I take it you have already replaced the distributor with something appropriate too. If not, I'd do that immediately, before I'd do a cam swap.
Also, the weakest link in that engine is the exhaust, all the way from the heads to the street. You will get minimal benefit from any cam you put in there until all that garbage is gone. Get something like the TES for a L69 or L98, and the cat and cat-back for the same application; DON'T get stuff for the LG4 as it will be the same size as the little weenie head pipe and cat that are the problem in the first place.
