How much should I pay for used 2.8L engine?

I am buying an '89 V6 Firebird is great shape for $100. The motor knocks badly, so I am going to put in a used junkyard motor and donate the old one to the local High School Shop class.
How much do used 2.8L V6 engines go for on average?

Thanks

Sounds like they're including the cost of a guarentee, which means they aren't going to risk giving you just any engine.

Try the Classifieds on this site, and also ask on the V6 board. You'll probably do better there (might even get an engine just for hauling it away - no joke).

AFAIK, there is no reason you couldn't use the basic engine from a front wheel drive car, so check your local paper's classified for those cars as well. I believe the S-10/S-15's had the oil filter in a different location, but a remote mount filter conversion would solve that problem and allow you to use engines from them as well.

If you have a couple buddies go with you to the pull it yourself yard and score one out of a rear-ended front driver. The difference is the intake manifold (use your old one) and most were speed density not maf like you probably have. If you use all your ducting and wiring you don't need to swap the ecm. The yard in my area charges $80 for a motor if you pull it yourself no matter what size engine it is (my brother scored a 440 out of a new yorker to rebuild for his six-pack for $80!!!) Most 2.8 in camaros are usually there because they are tired. Smashed front drivers at least ran before they got there (not a guarantee though)

why do you want a 2.8 anyway? go atleast to a larger V6, even that isnt much improvement though
