RamJet350

Anyone see the latest GMHTP Magazine? Had a Camaro RS with a 305 TBI in it and they swapped in this RamJet350 and they said it was a breeze! All u need to get is a fuel pump and have a 12 V battery and fuel and thats all u need! I thought this sounded pretty cool. They got it to run 13.0 flat in the 1/4 mile and the thing puts out 400lbs of torque at 3500rpms! Thats a street racing engine for ya. Wondering if anyone else has looked into or done any research on this engine and how easy it is to swap in and calibrate. Guess it comes with its own computer and everything.

Theres some specs on it, I don't know where I would find the article in GMHTP on the internet anywhere.

Yeah, I checked into it and its the way to go but here in colorado it wont pass emissions tests. At least thats what I have been told because no provision for EGR. Is there anything new on this?.........bob

No EGR and an open-loop injection & ignition system.

Some guys are looking into controlling it via TPI systems, but you're still looking at a totally uncertified system.

If you want to do this clean, get the long block and the SDPC/Edelbrock manifold, and run that with the California E.O. hop up parts.

Sorry it took so long to get back.

This info is not COMPLETE, and until someone really does this swap this is what I know.

I'll check, but AFAIK, you can buy the Vortech-head 350 engnine assembly without the RamJet intake. Pretty good piece. All iron, roller cam, good pistons, yadda yadda, a good street motor.

The manifold that's supposed to be coming is the SDPC / Edelbrock TPI base, with all the bolt holes and port alignment to mate the upper part of a TPI system, and all the engine management with Vortec heads.

(Won't work now without major-a$$ mods, if at all, redrilled heads or no)

That way, you could still use your existing computer, etc. This keeps you from having to learn how to be an engine systems genius.

Supposedly, this includes an EGR port of some type that keeps it legal for emissions, but nobody has seen one yet. I'm sure it's coming, but the original delivery date was October.

Now, the RamJet intake could possibly be used with TPI, closed-loop management. But, if you get it hooked up and running, u-da-man because it's clearly not designed for it.

There is no EGR provision. There is also a very different TB, and whether you do speed density or MAF, you will have to smoke it out.

Someone will figure it out, but until they do, using the system it comes with, which is pretty bullet proof, is probably the way to go.

BTW, I just saw something in one of the books that said Autocenter has a TPI Replacement 350 longblock for the '87 -up TPI cars. Worth checking out.

Hope this helps,

Why did they used 2 bolt mains on this thing?! Sounds like a recipe for a blown engine to me.

2-bolts arn't much weaker than a factory 4 bolt. they can handle upto 500hp.

Hey just wanted to kick out an Idea about the ramjet... I've heard that a TPI computer can be hooked to it (it does have 8 fuel injectors and an MAP after all) and as far as the EGR goes, how about this: From what i remember, 5.0 mustangs have an EGR port directly on the throttle body, would it be possible to do something like this for the Ramjet? Possibly a different or modified throttlebody (and leave the intake alone?) I am going to look into that (suddenly we would have 350 smog legal Fuel Injected horsepower)
