305 to 350 swap with probs

Recently I threw a rod in my 89 RS and in a desperate attempt to find another 305 was impossible for me at a descent price. I replaced it with a 350. everything works fine when I start it for the first time each day, but after I run it for about 15 minutes, It seems like it starts to flood. idles fine, but when I put it in gear it just all of a sudden dies out. evens happens like if I'm stopped at a stoplight. If I let it sit for about 3-4 hours then everything is fine again. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Does your "Service Engine Soon" (SES) light come on? If so, the computer is setting a trouble code, which will help point you in the direction of your trouble.

Bad news guys...the service engine soon light has been on since 1990, because My dad hit a deer in it and totaled it out...we bought it back and rebuilt it. so even with the 305 in it the service engine soon light was on.

Pull some codes and they'll tell you what sensor is bad. Replace and be on your way. I don't see the big problem except if you don't know how to pull codes.

Right under the instructions for how to get them in the link above. My Haynes manual also has them, and the "code readers" you get from Checker/Pep Boys/Auto Zone also have them.

It's above your right shin when you're sitting in the driver's seat. A cover, about .5" x 2", is over it (if the cover hasn't been lost).

Typically, it can't be seen when sitting in the seat, so bend over and look for it.
