Headers & y-pipe to use 93 LT1/89RS Swap?

Hopefully, the subject speaks for itself....

I am in the process of swapping an LT1 into my 89 RS. My RS was/is a V6 (yes there is lots of pain with this swap., but I am sucking it up - so, don't cry for me).

I noticed on a friend's car which had Block Hugger headers there is not a lot of room on the drivers side. In fact, that header is actually touching and being worn away by the steering shaft knuckle. That is not at all what I want! I need someone to tell me how they found a solution to this problem. Which header/y-pipe combination they used and if their solution was economical.

Also, I want to keep all of my emissions stuff. So the header must include the smog pump and O2 sensors…..

What I am hoping to avoid is beating, banging and unnecessary welding. I need help in finding a solution that is geared toward a nice set-up that is affordable, but emissions legal.

Thanks

be sure to order two weld-on 02 sensor bungs because the heddmans dont come with them, you may only need one, I know that mine has two 02 sensors

What is a OS sensor bung? I talked to a guy from Hedman and he told me I needed to order a kit., but I left the part number in the office....

I would order everything from Jegs, it might end up being a little cheaper, I think I got headers and y-pipe for like $209. the sensor bung is basically a round nut with threads on the inside that you weld to the headers or y-pipe and then drill out the center, well, vice versa, and it allows you to screw in your O2 sensor, they are only like a dollar or two, but you need two of them , one for each side

I am doing the same swap. I just installed edelbrock headers for a 94-95 model. they hooked up good. I should know tomorrow if the y pipe hooks up good. It has the profissions for the o2 sensors allready. The exhaust ports are D shaped to match the heads.
