Step 1:
Sell that car, and take the money and go get a V8 one.

Then worry about hot-rodding that one.

Man, did you open Pandora's box!!! Whew!! You gonna get it now boy. 3rd gen good. 4th gen bad. No say 4th gen better on this site. Engine good. But car bad.

You'll find out soon enough. Tell your mother you love her.

Thirdgen is definetly better! They have bigger engine compartments and it is alot easier to work on your engine on a thirdgen than on a fourth gen, where the engine goes under the dash(partially)

I got a 92 z28 with only 56,000 miles for only 5000. Thats a gret deal, and i only needed about 1000 to fix it up

Runs great and it is stock except the flowmaster exhaust.

Sell and get another. Resale value won't be that good on a car with a swap like that. More stuff to buy, and you'll probably have more to do. I would find a car with all the stuff your present car might not have (like if your car is red, and you always wanted white, now is a good time... wanted manual, but got an auto, or if the paint is bad, etc.)

my 85 z28 was only $2500, and the only option it didn't have was the iroc package. and the body is in near mint condition. and i think that the third-gens look a lot better.
so sell your car to a dumb high-schooler for about 1000, buy a v-8 camaro or whatever for about 3000, that is abou 2000 dollars that you can spend on making that car go faster.

2000 dollars on a 350 can do alot.

I think that the third generation is much better looking than the fourth gen, however, a stock fourth gen. z28 will wipe the floor with a stock third gen z28. BUT if you bought a third gen. you could take the extra money that you saved and turn it into a damn fine car (the fourth gen. will probably be faster though unless you use nitrous).

Please don't cut off my ***** for this, it's just my opinion.

Ok for all those that Ask Where Im at. Im From Central Michigan. I run a race team called Knight Storm Racing. We race Formula Indy cars or Michigan Modifieds Which ever you prefer to call them. We also have several SCCA Road america series cars that we race once in a while. Those include My dads Mitsubishi 3000GT vr4, My 89 TTA and my 300zx. Hopefully in the next few years we plan on opening a performance shop specializing in race and street tuning for 3rd gen and up camaros and firebirds. Also We are looking to do some tuning on some of the hot imports as well. (3000gts and 300zx)

First of all, there is no way you could get a 4th gen for $4000, unless you get it in pieces. The best deal I have ever seen for a decent one is about $7000, and the Trans Ams are even more for some reason. I think you have already gone past that thought, but I just wanted to throw that in there. A good place to look for used third gens is in "Auto Trader", it is a paper that you can get at most gas stations. That is the best place to find them around here, and I think they are a nation wide publication, but if they aren't the have a web site where you can search locally (or nation wide), www.autotrader.com Just thought I would pass that info along.

4th gen or 3rd gen? I have both. If you want to build a car, stick with a 3rd gen. If your not to handy with a wrench, get a loan and buy a 6sp 4th gen. You will not be sorry.

Well its great that you mention that. I have most of the parts I need to do a swap. I have an engine that i picked up from a salvage yard (4 bolt main 383 with L98 intake) All i need is a computer and Harness and new injectors. I also have a TH 350 out of god knows what.. I traded it for a 4 speed manual out of a 4 cylinder F-body. The rear end in my car is allready built for some serious fun. (12 bolt center section Limited slip) The only parts I dont have are a Drive shaft for the new tranny. Tranny cross members and no motor mounts either. Also i dont have any accessory brackets for the v-8

If anyone might have an idea how to make all this extra junk work together let me know because I am just about ready to sell it all and start from scratch

Oh yeah I almost forgot I was corrected... Our race team runs with NASA (national auto sports Association) in the E-1 Class. Our formula car sometimes runs in the SCCA road america races in the Nostalgia class (forgive my spelling)

I think a th350 can take a 383. He means he traded a 4 speed for the auto.
