305 TBI to 3.8 turbo

I just had a crazy idea put into my head. A while back I bought my first 3rd gen (first GM ever for that matter) Its a 91 RS with the 305 TBI with auto trans (whatever newer equiv to 700R4 is). I ofcourse wanted to make it faster. Thought about a crate 350 ramjet.. etc etc.. Then the idea. What about getting a 3.8 turbo like the 89 TTA's? Where would I go about finding one of these motors? New.. Used.. I don't care.. Would I have to go to the 2004R tranny or will the 700R4 bolt to it? I figure it may be best auto, and I know all the T-Types... GN's.. and TTA's had those 2004R's in them or something like that.

I figure it would be a pretty good sleeper

Or am I just stupid and need to not talk any more.

Thanks..

Yes you are stupid I asked about this before...2.8 --> 3.8T but prices involved i couldnt justify spending upwards of 6500-7000 to do this, i could buy a 92z28 for that...

best way is to get a totaled Grand National and just swap everything.

And then take out the AC, cuz it wont fit with the GN engine.

I hear I'd have to get different heads than the GN motor too...

Yeah that would be a cool swap, my friend totaled his 86 GN, took the driveline out (3.8 turbo and 200 4r) and put it into an 87 RX-7. All stock ran high 11's. In an F body would be a lot of fun, and sound like a six cyl RS until boost kicked in. I know the heads and headers are different, The heads you can get from a FWD buick with a 3.8. The headers are mad expensive. The factory TTA ones are very hard to find, especially without cracks. Aftermarket ones are like $500-$800. Would be a cool swap, if you can find a donor car. There was a rumor of an 89 TTA running gear here in Arizona going for $2,000.

no. You have to get different heads if you want AC. If you ditch AC you can use the stock heads.
