12.3 TPI 350 in Chevy High Performance

I was wondering if any of you picked up the new Chevy High Performance (I know it's kind of a ****ty mag) and saw the 350 TPI they built. It thought it was pretty impressive because I've been told by soooo many its hard to get a TPI car in the low/mid 12's. The article pretty much lists every part and explains the best way to utilieze the TPI's ponies. It was a pretty good blue print to build a 12.3 all motor car w/out changing to one of those expenisive after market fuel injection systems. They also used L98 heads ported and polished instead of going with aftermarkets. Another bonus is it's still emmisions legal!!! If anyone out there decides to build the motor out of this mag, or has another low/mid 12 sec TPI recipe please email me at Cruising270@hotmail.com I've been working so much lately I rarely get to check this board, so I'd apritiate the e-mail. Hope this article can help any of you looking to build a TPI motor up.

Don't get your hopes up if you try to copy the magazine article. They used L98 aluminum heads, had an aftermarket intake plus a lot of other stuff that is barely mentioned in the article.

If you try to build an engine with what they mention in the article don't be surprised if you car only does mid to high 13's.

To add to what Stephen said - The L98 heads received CNC porting, valves, springs, and machine work from CNC Cylinder Heads. They get $1300 - $1600 (depending on the springs locks and retainers) to set up the customer supplied "bare" cylinder heads. Without this type or similar porting on the heads, I'd think most people's car would have a hard time running 13.0s,, even applying all the "tricks" that were not mentioned.

If you want more info on the 12 second camaro build up, go to the magazine article section of this site. It is the HardRock camaro build up part 4 part.

Is possible though. A local guy runs a 12.2 on street tires (granted 315's) in a 92 1LE with long tube runner setup. No nitrous/SC. Oh, and its emissions legal through dual cats. Wouldn't have believed it myself if hadn't seen it. Awesome car.

It is not hard to beleave they ran 12.3 with that car at all I have seen many 12 second long tube cars. And yes you do have to spend money to get to that point, but spending money on the correct heads, cam, intake, and chip tuning is still a heck of alot cheaper than almost any other 12 second car in the world.
