3.1 to carbed V8

will i need to keep the computer if i go with a non-computer-controlled carb?

what do i do with all the excess wiring?

i'm not worried about emissions testing becuz i have some hook-ups..................

but..........what i want to put in is a carbed 383.............i'd probably build the motor myself...........what would i need to do with the fuel pump?

could a single fan handle this motor or is a dual fan a better option?

for a 383 with say, ported heads, 11:1 compression, and an edlebrock intake, big cam, what would the best carb for it be?

If you have a non-CC carb & distributor, the computer will be brain dead. Doesn't hurt anything being there; SES light will come on, that's all (take the bulb out).

After you get it running and are sure everything works, cut out the excess wires, rewrap what's left.

Fuel pump, either get a 3-port regulator to bring the pressure down to 5-7 psi; or remove pump from tank, put in a piece of hose in its place (or a non-in tank pump pickup), and plumb a line over to a mechanical pump on the front passenger side of the engine.

Dual fans is the better option.

A 750 cfm should handle a 383.

Convert it to a switch in the passenger side head.

I did the same swap. To use my fan i found the wire that originally went from the sensor on the v6 head and grounded it. You don't have to mess arougn with running wires you can uses the ones that are already there. If you want to use a switch make one up that grounds that wire. You can get away with much smaller wires and switch since you are only activating a relay.

what about my brake lines??? do they NEED to get moved?

what accessories that my current V6 has can i keep?? what will i need new brackets for?

i guess i'll need a new starter and a balancer and a flywheel

what kinda carb should i get? manual or electric choke?

The block will have to be clearanced on the pan rails for the rods. For a 383, you'll need externally balanced flywheel/flexplate and harmonic damper.

You must move the brake line on the front crossmember because the V6 line sits right were the V8 mounts need to go.

About the only accessories from the V6 that will fit are the AC compressor and power steering pump, and even those will need new brackets and hoses.

An electric choke is so much less hassle than a manual on the street. If it is only started at the track, then perhaps you could justify a manual choke.

thanx alot, man

thanx for clearing up the question about the brake lines

i mite just go with a 350 since i wanna start off with a brand new block

either way........how are Tremec trannys?

some dood at work said they are great and would work good

any other stuff need to get changed?
vacuum lines anything?

so far here is ALL i know that needs to be changed:
TRANNY, RADIATOR, MOTOR MOUNTS, BRAKE LINES, SPRINGS, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR

if so this doesnt seem 2 bad

now, not to ask a dumb question, but the computer in my car only controls my fuel injection/ engine........when i "kill" it, it won't effect anything else, right?

Somethin to add to your list is longer drive shaft and torque arm !! the Th350 tranny is shorter than the 700r4 tranny You also might need a tranny mount kit to do this. Ive just started this swap too so good luck 2 ya
