RPM air gap
RPM air gap
Has anyone tried to put an RPM air gap intake under the stock hood? I was just wondering if thats possible or if anyone had done it. And if not what amount of clearance was needed more than the stock hood provided?

It fits with room to spare when the proper
drop base air cleaner is used Z28 Corvette
style.

The air filter is from a '67-69 427 corvette
or '67-'69 302 Z28 Camaro. It uses the stock 14x3" filter. Some of the aftermarket air cleaner bases don't drop as nicely around the carb as the GM base does. There is more
than enough room even with a 1/2 inch nitrous plate. I have this setup on my Third gen firebird now.

I guess my carb is too tall. If I get a shorter filter, the air horn won't clear. The hood almost closes though.

I'm also having problems with hood clearance and my RPM intake manifold. I have a 1" holley adaptor to TBI and it doesn't fit. I'm thinking about grinding the adaptor plate on an angle because only the front lip is hitting. The performer fits but it's because it's front carb surface is so much lower than the rpm. I have to figure this out because I don't like using the proflow piece of crap.

it will fit with the recessed air cleaner, and about a 1" filter element. However, i used this setup, and the hp/torque you gain with the intake is compromised by the air filter needed. This is not worth the money unless you run the intake with the proper air cleaner. It is essentially an RPM manifold except has a "valley pan" to isolate the runners from the hot oil splashing up underneath! before purchasing this intake, get a spacer for your tbi/carb which isolates heat, and you will do about the same thing for 20 bucks insteal of 200!
