89 Firebird Base Model
I have checked the site, and found nothing about starting with the base model. I am wanting to know if I can swap my 2.8L V6, with an LS1 engine, and if it will bolt up to my existing 700r4 trans. I am also thinking about getting a replacement rear end, something that is a good balance between 1/4 mile track, and road or street racing.

Re: 89 Firebird Base Model
My car was a '89 base model. No problem as long as you're willing to replace the entire drivetrain front to rear. It's a better dash cluster too since the tach redline and range is higher then the V8 and more in line with how you would use a LS1 engine, or any hot street engine for that matter. I was able to re-calibrate my tach for a V8 by changing a resistor on the circuit board. I had a friend with a waveform generator so it was pretty easy to do a pretty accurate calibration from 200 - 8,000 rpm. Most people aren't going to be so lucky to have such geeky friends.
I don't know anything about doing an LS1 swap. I just felt like responding since I have the same car you're starting with.

well I am thinking of rebuilding the 700r4, I like the overdrive gear, and the lockup torque converter. isn't the bell housing the same for the v6, and v8?
