You'd be better off buying a ZR1 instead of even thinking about a swap like that.

You can buy a complete new crate motor with ALL accessories attached for about $12K. Not worth it in my mind for approximately 400-HP. However, the LT5 is a highly underutilized engine in terms of performance potential. The level of modifications over stock to pump out 700-Hp is minimal compared to other engines but the cost to do those mods is substantial.

Chevy had a showcar Camaro a few years back with the LT-5...they had to shoehorn thehell out of that thing to make it fit, then had to fab al kinds on intake ducting. They had to notch the members, and throw out the AC. Great motors developed by Lotus, and very expensive and underultilized as stated above.

I think you wanted to know what an LT5 is, right? It was an 350, aluminum block, 4-cam, 16 fuel injectors and it produced 375hp. They put these in about 6,000 ZR1 Corvettes(quiet collectable nowdays). It was a good idea for the time but the whole set-up is too expensive and hence it was abandoned.I read a comparison between the LS6 and the ZR1s LT5 in a magazine(GMHTP or SC,I forget) but the LT5 is old news, compared to the single cam LS6 V8 w/a slightly smaller displacement.
Although the ZR1/LT5 did have a cute feature. You can turn off 8 of the 16 fuel injectors with a "wallet key" thus rendering the car "powerless".I think it was like 225hp. Hey, just like a 3rdGen of those times! LOL.

If you want to find one there was a place that claimed to always have at least one in stock. I think it was Trans Am Creations in Florida. They are on the net, do a search.

Actually the later ones had 405 HP and they could run with Z06's and TwinTurbo Vettes.

The 405hp ZR-1's could only click off a 12.9 on a good day compared to the ZO6's 12.4.

I remember when I used to work at a dealership we had one of those C4 vettes. It had a switch on the dash that said 225hp on one side and 405hp on the other side. I think I about wet my pants when I saw that back in '94.

This comparison is silly. The LT5 is a far superior engine to the LS6. It's seriously hampered in stock form and makes one serious power curve with very minor mods. Stock to stock tests are pointless. No performance oriented person is going to run stock. A street worthy modded N/A LS6 couldn't catch a street worthy modded LT5 on the best of days. However, as I said before those simple mods to the LT5 come with a great price tag.

I don't believe the LT5 shuts off fuel injectors for the valet mode. That would cause it to run lean. It restricts the air flow to the engine with valves in the runners. In valet mode only one set of valves is open. In power mode both sets of valves are open.

No, it does indeed disable the secondary set of injectors.
I used to frequent ZR1.com when I was considering purchasing a 94 ZR1.
Now I've got the MKIV Supra bug, I want one sooo bad.........too many choices, not enough money.

It might be a combination of both. We've taken the manifold off my friend's ZR1 to change the starter and enlarge the drain passage. Seemed at the time there were valves that restricted air flow.

Have you seen the Walser supra on the supra forums? Anything that can leave a 900cc bike stnding is worth having.

If Chev had kept with the LT5 design imagine how much power it would probally be making now. The Viper would have to be playing catch-up with the Vette rather then the other way around. 10 years of tech development goes a long long way.

I have a pic of a guys intake that blew up. He was running Nitrous and all of a sudden he had no power. He pulls off the road, pops the hood and sees that the center of the manifold has split on 3 sides. It looks like a backwards air scoop. It apparently still ran (with a rather large vacuum leak ) Its an awsome.. but heart breaking pick. Those things are impressive.

Seen that pic too. I'll have to look it out again. I wonder how much that cost to fix. Not too many LT5s lying in bone yards. Ouch!
