Help with engine rebuild please...
Hey I'm new to this board.....
I plan on starting an engine rebuild this summer on my 91 Firebird. The engine is a 305 TBI. I've been going back and forth, researching this and that, reading whatnots about 350s and 305s and TBIs and TPIs and carbs and everything. I'd just like to hear opinions from you guys. Anyone rebuild their 305? Any thoughts at all would be helpful.
Also, for the longest I wanted to just rebuild a 350 but couldn't get my hands on one, and I recently just decided rebuild what i have.

My base advice - don't spend a dime on the shortblock. Go ahead and improve your 305's heads, cam, intake, etc., but as soon as that block needs a trip to the machine shop, it's time to look for a 350 to work with.

I wouldn't even do that, the L03's are so reliable stock, I would leave it and save your money up and do an LTX/LSX swap, thats where you'll get power and drivablility.

What if you're looking to rebuild for structural purposes and not higher performance? I'd like to have more power and all that from a 350, but not sure I could afford to spend more to get a 350 for the simple fact that I'd get more power.
