Help!! Whats wrong with it?? Rebuild or New Motor??
I need some opinions on what I should do to my 1986 Trans Am 5.0 TPI. My cousin recently sold it to me for $500 and it doesnt run. The only problems it had before was fuell injectors and alternator. My uncle tried installing a new starter but the engine froze and now it wont turn over.
Do you know what could be wrong with it??
Should I have the motor rebuilt or should I get a new motor? 305 or 350??
Wich way would be cheaper?
Please help!!!

Not sure what could be wrong with it but as far as rebuild vs. new it depends on what ya want and your connections. My brother's 4 banger Mustang was around $1000 to rebuild. A guy in the Seattle area ran 12's on a $400 wrecking yard motor in a 4th gen Z28.. You might be able to find a 305 fairly cheap if someone around is ditching their's for a bigger motor, crate motor's/speed shop motor's can range from 1200-7000+

You can get a L98 350 from Autozone for $800. Just tell them you need a motor for a 92 Z28 5.7L. That will get you running good for the least amount of money. Sure there are better engines than Autozone but not cheaper. A cheap Autozone motor will probably be more cost effective and give more power than fixing the 305.
