Re: started my build
alright on saturday we had to fix mower first(it takes a beating with 10 acres haha) then we cleaned garage up and moved car in. tried the vette zr1 wheels on. too wide and i dont to mess with spacers thats why i'm selling them.
after that we got a jump on preping engine for removal.
removed cooling system
disconnected ps and ac lines
and a few wires
motor mounts
sunday we got back on it round noon and undid the
tranny crossmember
driveshaft
sawzawed the exhaust off (scrap $$ lol)
and finished disconnecting all the wiring
and pulled it out
overall took about 7 hours since we wanted to take our time and label everything(smartway)

Re: started my build
I have a few questions:
what will i need for my speedo to work with my transmission from an 87 z28? the car now is a 92 rs v6?
will the tach work correct when wired up?
is my cruise gonna work when i take the v6 computer and wiring harness out?
that's it for now, thanks in advance

No. You need a V8 tach.
No, it's operated by the computer.

Re: started my build
today my dad finished swapping the suspension, the power steering pump and a few little things on the engine,
meanwhile i got an offer on my zr1's i was trying to sale.
the offer was a set of irocs 85-87 like what i was lookin for, plus $100 for my wheels.
only downer was that i had to drive and meet them 2 1/2 hrs away, south of indianapolis, so i did lol. what 16 year old gets to go to Indy on his own?? haha

(They tend to catch on fire if you every have a backfire, and if the engine is still running, it will suck molten filter goo into the carb & engine.)
Oh, you asked how off the tach will be. Since a V8 has 4 sparks per crankshaft revolution and the V6 has 3, it'll be 4/3rds of actual. So, 600 RPMs will read as 800, 2400 will read as 3200, etc.

yea they are moving along well, wish they'd move along a little quicker though, but i'm only 16 and have a weekly income of bout $60 where i wor at haha,so after paying gas for my vehicle im not left with much. most of this build has been payed by alot of wheeling and dealing! haha

Re: started my build
Then this build is prepareing you for your future, because life is all about wheeling and dealing, well in my case anyway. I started my build about 2 months ago, i am in the process of completely stripping down the car, parts that is. Last weekend i removed all of the front chassis parts, and i will be removing a perfectly good engine in a little while, just to paint in engine compartment. (its a labor of love) My buddy just picked up his buddies engine hoist for me just yesterday.
I will check in on you and see your progress. I wish my son had the desire to do what you are doing.

yea, it will help in the future, sucks cause i am unable to do any of the work myself, and my dad is gone throughout the week most of the time and so it's left to me and my buddies(which are clueless on what to do lol) the dad helps on the weekend usually.

I also was in a motorcross accident when i was 17, i shattered my knee cap and broke my ankle, and had to quit racing. Its a a very dangerous sport, I am glad to see that it is not holding you back from doing this build.
