Chevy 400 Small Block .030 over, Block Casting #3951509 gonna need to be re-ringed It has no ridge but you could tell by the carbon build up that it was run fat =/ im trying to get some sort of peices to put on my camaro for when winter comes

Re: sbc 406 or suspension?

It could be argued that the suspension is a safety issue, while the 406 is just for fun. Also, the 406 is a sure way to get traction problems, especially in the winter.
If you do the suspension first, you have better odds of hooking up that 406.
And while the 305 exhaust will connect to the 406, it'll be out of breath by 3000 rpm, it'll drive like a diesel.
For less than the 406, you can do headers and exhaust to your 305, and add a 100-shot of nitrous, and be close to high 13s. Well, assuming drag radials and a posi.

got headers and exhaust on the 305 isnt nitrous kinda like playing russian roulette with your engine i wont drive in the winter with this car its jersey this car wouldnt make it through anything more then a few inches of snow. =] thanks for the thoughts tho ill prolly grab the engine and not touch it its 300 dollars (and shiney and stuff) and ill grab a suspension asap too

Personally, I'd do the suspension now and the LS1 later. Most likely the LS1 will have more power than the 400, and it'll be a lot more fun to drive.

Re: sbc 406 or suspension?

k the next question is what type of suspension and how much will it run me but seeing as this is the engine swap board i believe that i will have to place that somewhere else

Preparing the car to take the engine is important.

Subframe connectors, poly bushings all around, aftermarket or boxed lower control arms, LCA relocation brackets. If you want to go beyond that, adjustable track bar. I'd save the torque arm upgrade until you're sure what engine and transmission you'll be putting in.

I went froma 305 to a 350 and wish that I had more time to adjust the suspention. I blew my 305 though so I had no choice. You shoudl replace, and reenforce before you up your power output or your going to have more problems down the line.

I say to go for suspension parts then the ls1 since you will with that combo, kick azz in the quarter, kick azz in the curves, kickin azz with 20+mpg, and kickin azz while your be able to use her as a daily driver with no worries. because... you got an ls1 and a fixed up suspension!
