My Procharged 383 Swap

Hey everyone, I thought I would start my own 383 swap thread. I should get the rest of the parts ordered in the next month and start the project..

It is a 383, 9:1 Comp, Forged Eagle H beam rods, Forged Eagle crank, and Forged pistons (not sure on what pistons are in it).. AFR 195 heads, 1.52 and 1.6 roller rockers, ported HSR, Holley 58mm throttle body, Centerforce SFI steel flywheel, Centerforce Dual friction clutch, and MSD Pro Billet Distributor. That is what I have so far..... and a P600 Procharger with 9 lbs of boost hopefully.. more boost would be awesome.

This motor made 530 HP and 575 TQ in a Firebird. Ran 11.4 at Bandimere (5800 Ft above sea level)..... We will see what she does in my Maro. And also what she breaks.. ha... i hear more $$$$9in$$$T56$$$$haha

Here are some random pics of stuff so far.

not yet, was getting it running good on 7psi, and trans went, so out went the 700r4 and in went the th400, and while i was doing a trans swapped, i put on a smaller pulley for 14psi estimated.. and then decided to do a few other things. you know how it goes.. new brakes, and I sold my efi, and im still saving for the new efi system to replace it. so for now its sitting. at least another month.

Re: My Procharged 383 Swap

Id put in a new rear and trans before even trying to drop that engine in. Youre gonna have to build up a t-56 to survive behind that much torque too, a straight stock dropout wont last long (unless you get one from a viper).

Only thing that came with the F1A was the crank, alternator, waterpump, and blower pulleys.
the power steering relocation bracket was seperate, but purchased from procharger as well, which requires a newer gm type 2 pump with remote resevoir, and the alternator location is totally custom. I had to get the depth right, and I mounted it with some long *** bolts and tube sleeves, and for adjusting tension, I used a double spherical rod end purchased from march pulley company and that mounts from the ear of the alternator to a stud on the water pump.

Re: My Procharged 383 Swap

The same pulley on a 383 vs 350 will probably make less boost pressure. But will actually make more power because the 383 will move more air so it's actually making it in to the engine instead of stacking up in the intake. So I wouldn't worry about the actual PSI being lower.

Looks like a mean engine! You def. need to step up to a 12bolt/9" and you will be on borrowed time with a stock T56.

Re: My Procharged 383 Swap

Very nice!

I like the old (Vette?) valve covers.

And I like both Gloss/Satin black in engine bays. Just depends on the look your going for. I think that satin will make the motor stand out more, whereas gloss will "blend" it in a little better.

Re: My Procharged 383 Swap

thanks for the reply man, and ya they are the older vette valve covers that were painted. i think i might flat black the engine bay. it will be close to satin.. i tried gloss black but it didnt turn out good..

Looks pretty good, I used flat black in my old firebird, and I liked it. Did you rattle-can it?

yup few cans of flat black. it looks better than when i tried gloss blacking it. gloss out of rattle cans is hard. i think ill leave it the way it looks now..

Do you have any pics of your flat black on ur firebird?

Why'd you pull the interior harness out?

Heres a pic I found in my photobucket of my old firebird with the flat black bay:

Nice, how tall are those AFR valve covers? I was looking at changing my set for a set of those but my turbos sit right on the current covers, so they cant be too tall

Looks good tho

they are about 3-3.5 inches tall. i have to get a bracket made for my blower, the valve covers were hitting the blower a lil..

and i need to go find a pic of ur motor, i cant remember what ur covers look like, and where the turbos mount..

and thanks man, i like the new covers..

today i had to temporarly put the k member, and motor in, cause i went in my garage today, had the motor sitting on a tire, and it was about to tip over!.. started collapsing the tire.. scary moment
