engine swap
I have an 88 iroc with 305 tpi w/maf (it is wrecked) I just bought (ok a year ago) a 92 rs 305 that had tbi (engine was blown and not in the car but I have all parts) I want to put the iroc engine in the 92. now from everything I read on this message board there is some difficulties with this swap. here is the question. would it be best to swap the entire engine, ECM and dash harness along with the guages to do this swap. I should also say that the iroc tranny is auto and the 92 is a 5 speed manual. or is there a better way?

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The issues involve the type of speedometer in each (cable drive for the '88, electronic transmission-mounted VSS for the '92), VSS buffer box in the '92, and VATS in the '92. If you change out the entire harness and dash, putting all of the '88 stuff into the '92, you will "solve" those issues.
However, if you want to use the 5-speed from the '92, you'll run smack back into at least a couple of them.

The transmission mounted VSS. You'd either have to convert the tranny to cable drive speedometer, or do some work-arounds.
