Finally Swapping out my V6!!

After selling my 87 camaro 4 years ago, I'm getting it back from my brother. I drove it the other day and can't believe I left the v6 in there! I have access to a muncie 4 speed and a 3.73 rear for cheap or free so I plan on putting them in. Also, I have a set of good unported vortec heads, a GMPP carb intake, and a 350 or 327, my choice. This won't be an all out racecar, I'm basically building it on a bare bones budget for a play car. I want it reliable though.

My questions are:

1- Would 3.73 gears work foor with a M21 4-speed? Where would that put my highway cruising rpms's? Can I put a M21 in a 3rd gen?

2- I want to build it for pump gas (92 or 93 oct) and also leave the option open to put a procharger on. What CR should I be shooting for? Any other considerations? Can I put a procharge on a carb'ed car?

3- Is a carb an ok way to go for this car? The MPFI obviously won't work on a V8 so i was thinking about gettign rid of the computer all together and throwing the carb on. i don't want to spend a ton of money or time (I don't have much of either) into tuning an injection system.

It would work. Use the calculator tools available.

You can Procharge a carb'd car. Talk to them about CR.

Do you have any kind of emissions inspection or testing? Technically, non-computer carb isn't legal on your car (and Procharge doesn't do computer carbs - I asked).

Re: Finally Swapping out my V6!!

I won't have to worry about emissions since the car will be driven under 5000mi/year.

Yea I found those calculators yesterday and started playing around with them. I may end up going with the 327 and m21 since their basically free but down the road I may want overdrive. Would a flywheel, clutch, & pressure plate from a m21 work on a T-5 or T-56?

Also, my T-5 I have in the car now is from a 84 v6 (I think). Can I get a v8 bellhousing, a new flywheel, and clutch and use that trans? How much horsepower would it take?

You can use an S10 clutch disk with V8 flywheel and pressure plate.

Just don't make any more power than the V6 does and the transmission will be fine.

Re: Finally Swapping out my V6!!

So basically I better swap out the trans, right? I'd really like to have overdrive but even the WC T-5's are only rated for 300hp and T-56's are too expensive. I have a Muncie 4 speed I can put in. How difficult would that be?

The primary issues with the Muncie are the lack of torque arm mount, and crossmember mount location. Spohn can cover you for both with a swap crossmember and crossmember-mounted torque arm. http://www.spohn.net/shop/1982-1992-...nsmission.html
