Professional Products or Edelbrock EPS?
Alright guys, I need an opinion. I'm swapping out the LG4 outta my 84 and putting a 350 in. right now I'm just going for just shy of 400HP, basic heads cam and intake setup. I'm trying to figure out what heads and intake to go to. My buddy who's pretty good at building motors says to either go with a Professional Products 52026 or Edelbrock Performer EPS 2701 as intake manifolds are concerned. Has anyone had any luck with either of them? And anyone have a guess as to which set of heads I should save my pennies for? The motor is a 1975 350 4 bolt main.
Thanks in advance!

What hood do you have?
The Professional Products intake will not fit under a stock hood.
I'm no intake expert, but many folks run the Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and alot of others run the Edelbrock Performer Air Gap. Note that Edelbrock also makes a Performer RPM Air Gap, but it won't fit under a stock hood either. (The RPM designantion makes it a taller intake).
If you have a stock hood, you need to really look at intake heights. Generally, more 'powerful' intakes are going to be taller and thus won't fit under stock hood.

Re: Professional Products or Edelbrock EPS?
The Professional Products intake manifolds are just illegal copies of the Edelbrock and Weiand designs. They're legal in China, but Prof. Prod. NEVER paid to use the designs. Edelbrock is pursuing legal action.
I have no problem with Chinese, but Edelbrock sunk an awful lot of $ into the R&D.
I will not use Prof.Prod. crap. I happily pay more for genuine Edelbrock. Chinese stuff is cheaper, but once a dollar leaves the US, it never comes back. That's why I only buy American.

Dalce, step 1 is determining the rest of your system. What induction are you using? Are you sticking with the factory q-jet? (Yes, it will support 400 HP.) Or, are you going with a square bore carb?
For 400 HP, you're going to most likely have to spin above 5500 RPMs. That pretty much rules out a Performer (EPS) intake. A Performer RPM would work well, and is available in a spread bore (q-jet) version.

Sorry to hear that. You'll be spending money to replace perfectly good parts so that money can't be put where it will do some good.

something with me and quadrajets never got along, i can lay with any other carb but the moment i touch a QJ, it just starts to mess up. if i can get a holley or demon cheap then ill do it, if not, ill rebuild the QJ and just bite the bullet

Re: Professional Products or Edelbrock EPS?
After learning to tune the CCC Qjet replacing the carb is out of the question for me. I wouldn't put a holley on there if you gave me one for free.
The only thing you get out of the deal is worse fuel economy.
The performer RPM Qjet fits under my 86 Z28's stock hood with a drop base air cleaner.
Give Edelbrock the money they deserve. Intake manifolds are the one thing they can actually make well.

Re: Professional Products or Edelbrock EPS?
Q-Jets are the most difficult to get dialed in well. Even more difficult than EFI.
Holley has stated that they can't beat the Q-Jet when it comes to MPG. That was a long time ago, but they really haven't done anything to change that.
While the Q-Jet suffers from a lack of good tuning guidebooks, the Holley has too much support, and got me even more confused.
I was advised to call Demon directly, and they'd send a carb pre-calibrated, no tuning necessary. I did call. After answering about 50 questions, they took my credit card info, and gave me an approximate delivery date.
Well, a day before they said, the box arrived. I took the carb out, bolted it on, and only had to adjust the idle speed a tiny bit. It's now 10 months later, and it's still running perfectly.
It was more money up front, but I can now say it was worth it.
