V6 to v8 Vortec Trans Questions
Hello this is my first post on Thirdgen im a new member I recently bought a 87 v6 manual car im swaping to a 2002 5.7 vortec and I have a few drive train questions. I have read some of the stuff on the forums about the swaps but here is my questions... i pulled out motor out of the car found the bellhousing would not work then i found this site. I read you can use the v6 transmission but it is a verry bad idea so sctrach that but my Question Can i use my v6 drive line on the v8 transmission is the v6 clutch master the same as v6 master. Is the clucth hose the same, are the brackets crossmembers for trans mount, bar going to the rear diff mounts the same as the 6v or do i need all of that to put in the V8 transmission i have a 305 flywheel was going to buy a new clutch but just try to get my ducks in a row before i buy the transmission. Ty for any input. o by the way i know its cheaper to buy a v8 car im doing this as a fun project. so far at 1 thousand for the car. 5.7 motor harness and computer

Re: V6 to v8 Vortec Trans Questions
Yes, the '02 vans still used the L31.
You can keep the V6 master and hose, mount and shifter. You can use the 305 flywheel if it's '87-up. You'll need the '88-'92 V8 T5 and bellhousing. TBI was 0.63:1 fifth, TPI was 0.73:1 fifth. If you plan to get a big nasty cam, then choose the 0.73:1 version.
You can keep your axle as it is for now.

Using a V8 T5 will live longer behind the new engine, just dont expect it to be anywhere near bulletproof

i stabed my motor with using 305 mounts it fit with the mount brackets from the van I pulled the motor out of. The hood will have to be replaced with something alittle taller than oe im about 3 inches from the hood closing with the air intake on ac may be an issue to not sure yet still installing harness im sure the a/c will be last the compressor fits but i think i maby have an issue with the hose assy
