2.8 to 4.3 swap?
2.8 to 4.3 swap?
Hello,
My son has a 1988 camaro with a 2.8 engine, not sure of the transmission. We also have a 4.3 out of a chevy s-10 blazer 4x4. Can the engines be swapped? What else needs to be changed if anything? I appreciate any help!

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
The 4.3 has unique front engine mounts to any of the engines the factory put in 3rd gens. Some members have done it, but there will be fabrication involved.
The 4.3 uses the V8 bellhousing pattern, which isn't the same as the 2.8l. The 4x4 transmission would need a different output shaft housing, and output shaft (which requires complete disassembly of the transmission) to work in the 3rd gen.

Re: 2.8 to 4.3 swap?
is the 2.8 tbi or mpfi? is the 4.3 tbi or vortec?
the easiest way with the trans is to sell it and get one from an f-body, caprice or 2wd truck (s series or full size). that will far cheaper than having the output shaft changed.
most places charge more than half the cost of rebuild to swap the shaft. its the same labor for them.
