L69 to 1/2 L98

I'm getting an L98 from an '89 IROC and want to put my L69 heads on it w/ the intake and Q-jet. I would need the 350 knock sensor but other than that I think I should be good right? Any ideas for a cam upgrade? or could/should i use my L69 cam too? Any suggestions much appreciated

Why do you want to put 305 heads on it? The Iron L98 castings are pretty decent for the era.

Is your L69 year 84? If so it's a flat tappet block with perimeter bolt heads. The L98 is a roller tappet block with center bolt heads. Don't waste the good roller potential with flat tappet, that's going backwards.

IMO use the L98 heads, get a Qjet intake for center bolt heads, and a XR264 cam with accommodating valve-train goodness.

the L98 doesn't come with heads. I would think my heads would raise compression a bit.

They will. Thick composite head gaskets instead of steel shim will lower it back down to L98 range, though.

They would raise it a lot since it has NO compression now.

Use the 416 heads then and if you have the funds for the valve job put bigger valves in. If you also have the tools/funds/skill/patients port them to make best use of the larger valve and that would be the biggest gains.
