defendin the engine
ive seen a few bad comments on the crate engine made in mexico, being built with cheap products or iron. I just wanted to say that this is a strong engine and Ive had it in my camaro for a while and it runs strong and has gave be absolutly no problem

no exact name.. its a goodwrench 350 engine. assembled in mexico "hecho de mexico" block... for the ones that know it, know it. its not a popular engine and was made mostly in the early 90s.. it was $1,190 new lol

Re: defendin the engine
Sure it has a name... it's had two of them in its lifetime, even. When it was first introduced in 1981 it was the "Targetmaster", and now it's the "Goodwrench 350". They're very popular too, just not as a "performance" crate engine. They're mainly intended to be stock replacement truck blocks, and they do pretty well as such.

Re: defendin the engine
thank you! ugh i was trying to think of that name and couldnt find it for nothing... hehe and yes your right it is popular for the trucks but not in the performance/camaro world. i have this engine with headers, edelbrock performer series 600cfm carb, and edelbrock perfomer eps intake and car runs pretty strong. I don't know the h.p but i think its pretty good for what it is

The most powerful version was rated something like 260 HP net with a Qjet, so you should be a bit below that.

Depends which head. There's more to it than just making the combustion chamber small and the valves big.

Re: defendin the engine
Those are small chamber 305 heads. They're one of the better stock castings.
Sounds like you've got a 5.0 though, not a 5.7.

Re: defendin the engine
yes, i knew they were 305 heads but i also know they have the .190 intake valve which i thought might would make a differance "at least compaired to other 305 heads" they are basically perfect i mean like fresh out of the machine shop but i dont want to run them on my 350 if they wont be worth it. so idk what to do lol

Re: defendin the engine
There's nothing wrong with putting them on a 350, just watch the compression ratio.

Re: defendin the engine
ok thanks, i was being told by someone else i should "throw those turds over the fence" due to the runners and flow being for a 305 and will not feed the 350 properly..
and chance you would know a cam that may go well with this..?

Re: defendin the engine
The ports are more or less the same as what you're 350 heads have, so as far as that goes, I wouldn't worry about it. There are two main benefits to those 305 heads, compared to your 350 heads - the chambers are smaller and have a better design, so more compression and a more efficient burn. The other is that they are not lightweight castings like the 350 heads, so they will be alot less prone to cracking or warping. All the 305 heads really need to work WELL on a 350 is to install the larger valves like your 350 heads used (1.94/1.60)... I used a set of 601 castings on my 350 (which is what I suspect you have - I've never heard of an 801 casting) with the larger valves and they worked very well. They will likely raise the compression too much for the cam that came stock with that 350 though - you'll want something bigger to balance it out.

Re: defendin the engine
Doesn't the Goodwrench 350 have "993" heads and a 929 cam?
Just swapping the heads you won't gain much though, just as the guys above described. You got to at least bowl blend them to get the port to breath into the bore. Otherwise it will run out of breath around 4.5-5k RPM. The bigger valve with the right valve job could work (to pick them up above stock heads) as well but don't expect a high revving screamer until you got your grinder in them too.
If these have a similar port design to the 416 head fully ported they can be pushed to 6750RPM on a 350 before the port becomes over-run.
That is a valid casting number I had to look it up because I have never heard of it either. It's 14022801...80-86...305 according to Mortec archives.
