Would 92 camaro 305 fit in 84 camaro

Hi,

First time poster so take it easy guys, I have a 84 Berlinetta with a vd and automatic tranny. I found a good deal on a 305 from a 92 Camaro RS. Question is would that 305 mount up in my 84? Would the wiring harness be a problem?

I knew I would have to get another tranny any suggestions? What i meant was would it mount up on the motor mounts.

no ur gona have to change ur motor mounts and MAYBE trans mounts, i sugest a 700r4 outa another camaro for ease of instalation and a set of SOLID motor mounts, if u want ur car to shake lol if u want comfort go with factory

as far as harness, if u dont wana mess with a computer grab an HEI distributor and a carb and intake setup fo ur choice and shell run just fine

Sounds awesome I want to stay with carburated, this may be a stupid question but a SBC would work. Right?

If you want to make it cheap and good for SOME power abuse, I recommend the 700R4 (4 speed auto) or TH350 (3 speed auto). Both are great transmissions when beefed up in the right spots. Stock they can handle moderate power if you don't abuse it every second of the day.

Also - get a GOOD transmission cooler.. none of that cheap junk. Heat kills transmissions.

Re: Would 92 camaro 305 fit in 84 camaro

If you are going through the trouble of a swap for a V8 engine anyway, get a 350. 350's are the just about the same price as a 305 just about everywhere in the world. Crazy to go through all that and have less than you could have had.

And get a 700R4 tranny from a 1988 - 1993 F-body car - they made significant changes to the 700R4 in mid year 1987 that makes it better/stronger. Also, ONLY one from another F-body car is going to have the torque arm mount on it.
