350 rebuild

Hello All,
As I have written before, I picked up a 70's model 350.Finally got around to pulling the heads.I looked at the intake and exhaust valves real closely, and found no cracks in the area at all.Valves are pretty black with carbon and oil.
Looked at the cylinder walls, and they felt very smooth.I was pretty surprised due to the age of the engine. My question is, do I need to have a hone job on these walls due to there is no damage done to the cylinder walls.

Re: 350 rebuild

A hone job? Absolutely if you are rebuilding it. Honing the cylinder walls allows the new rings to seal properly.

If you are thinking of boring the cylinders, that is used to correct flaws in the walls such as grooves/gouges, tapering, and ovalling(not being perfectly round from top to bottom). With the exception of grooves and gouges in the walls, you cannot tell if a cylinder needs to be bored or not be feel.

Do you even know the bore size? Have you determined if perhaps it's been bored already? It is, after all, over 30 years old.
