v6 to v8 fuel question
My car is a 84 sport coupe and it had a v6 in it and i believe it was a stock carb 2bbl and it was a stick with 3.42 gears the v6 is long gone its just been sitting few questions
1 did these cars have in tank pumps just like fuel injected carbs?
2 if so is it the same pump ?
3 and if it is do i just use a regulator and return line to feed my v8 carbed ?
if not what do i need to do ?
i know theres a swap thread but ive never found anything about v6-v8 both carbed

1984 should not have a pump in the tank - just attach your manual fuel pump to the new motor and run that fuel line to your carb.

Re: v6 to v8 fuel question
I assume the mechanical pump on the block uses a return line to regulate pressure. I'm not 100% sure - but I'm pretty sure no 1984 car with carb had any helper pump in the tank, think those started in 1986 & 1987. If you had an electric pump in the tank, you'd hear it whine or hum when you turned the key to on - stick ear to tank and listen while someone turns on the key.

In a factory-type 3rd gen mechanical fuel pump, the pressure is regulated by a relief valve built into the pump that sends excess fuel volume back to the tank.
It helps reduce vapor lock.

How big of a shot?
Most serious nitrous set-ups use an electric pump to get smoother fuel pressure. A mechanical pump pulses with every-other engine rotation. A small shot (and I'm not willing to give you an exact number to what "small" means) could probably live with a mechanical pump.
Personally, I'd convert to an in-tank pump with plenty of capacity such as a Walbro 255. But, you could do in-line if you like. Use a return-style regulator such as the Mallory 4309, and the stock return line.
