Re: What's the value

$800.

Have the heads been drilled for accessories? If not, you'll have to drill them - they have no accessory bolt holes in the fronts for your p/s pump, alt, etc. (unless your using your 305 heads like we've been discussing - then you can sell those heads).

What's complete and ready to go mean? In my world, "ready to go" means I can start it and it runs on site - as in has an intake, carb, oil pan, water pump, starter, etc. all in place - but there's no mention of any of that - so you better get a definition of what "complete" means.

I say $800 because ... I paid $600 for my 350, and it was "complete" - carb to pan! Now, it's not pretty, it's old, it has smog heads - but it also has 10:1 dometop pistons, mild cam, and runs great. So, yeah ... I'm a tightwad! Guess maybe I've been spoiled by getting good deals in the past. Others might pay more than $800.

Good Luck!

Those camel hump heads are pretty long in the tooth.

You're buying a shortblock. Those 291 heads are worthless except to a collector. You can't drill the accessory holes because there's no pad on the end of the casting. The valves and seats are soft (unless replaced/reworked for unleaded gas).

No more than $500, depending upon condition.

Re: What's the value

OK - you got the expert answer from five7kid - he's da Man!

The 305 heads would work fine with pump gas like we discussed before - might need mid-grade or premium to avoid spark knock, but at today's gas prices, another 10-20 cents isn't even noticed anymore..

Those camel hump heads should be worthless... All the backwoods guys around here still think they are the be all end all of cylinder heads. He could probably unload them pretty easily to some old school guy stuck in his ways.

I was going to write something similar about these heads as maybe in the 70's they were the best, now they honestly suck compared to even late model factory offerings.
