Also it seems like a major headache, from people that have done it, is it worth it?

Re: L03 to L98 Swap

I can't see where it would be worth it. You need the engine, the intake system, the injectors, the computer, the prom, all the wiring. PITA in my book.

If you have to stay FI because of emissions laws, snag a 350TBI - all you need is the 350, a 350 TBI prom from a caprice or truck, 350 knock sensor, and 2 350 TBI injectors - you keep your ECM, all the wiring remains, you keep your TBI unit - much easier.

Re: L03 to L98 Swap

you don't need a harness or wiring. You can re-pin the connector at the pcm and you will need the tpi pcm and correct prom tho.

Re: L03 to L98 Swap

Re: L03 to L98 Swap

I did this swap. Not as hard as people say. The easiest way is to get the harness with the tpi system but you can repin the tbi harness if you want. I believe there is a tech article on this here on thirdgen.org. Yes you will need to change the fuel pump and sending unit in the tank. In my opinion that was the hardest part of the swap. If you do this swap stick with a speed density system from a 90 thru 92 models. If you have any questions PM me and I'll help the best I can.

doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of the swap?

Re: L03 to L98 Swap

not really a tpi engine is expensive to make it into a good performance engine you can get same performance with the tbi by using a 4bbl intake with a adapter and bore out the tbi unit and up the fuel pressure which is alot cheaper for diy then tpi unless you have the money and for the amount of money on a tpi engine spent to swap and swith over you could of got a vortec 350 or a 6.0 vortec and make more power stock and use a tbi unit you maybe have to get a custom chip but thats more easy then converting to tpi
