About to buy a 91 RS V6
About to buy a 91 RS V6
ok so I'm about to go buy a 1991 Camaro RS with an auto tranny and a stock V6 engine, BUT the engine is blown. Nice car, no dents or scratches, immaculate interior.
Like I said the V6 is blown. So I wanted to pull the blown one out and put in a 350, and maybe for the right price a 383 stroker.
Besides that, I'm not exactly sure what else I'm going to have to replace to get all the power I can out of it. Can you guys give me some suggestions as to what else I will have to take and out the car and replace? Did the auto V6 RS come with a 700r tranny?

Re: About to buy a 91 RS V6
If you want a V8, a v6 is a lousy place to start. Skip that other thread, all you need to know is that the sheet metal, interior, and some of the suspension is the same between the V6 and V8. Virtually everything else is V6 specific. Factor in that V8 cars usually came with more options, and related upgrades to support the V8, and there's no reason to start with a V6 at all. To do the job (V8 swap) right is a huge task that no one ever seems to pull off without a complete V8 donor car. When it's done you've got a worthless parts car, it's a V8 but the numbers still say it's a worthless V6.

I'm considering using a V6 'bird for an LS1 swap in the near future.
While Drew's point is taken, I like the body and could care less about what the numbers say.
I had to part out my 2001 Trans Am DD last year, so I have most everything needed to get started from that donor car before I sold all the rest.
Re: About to buy a 91 RS V6
yes I'm fine with it not being a "real IROC". I just want it to perform the same, if not better than an IROC. I want it to be a sleeper.
So I'm assuming I wouldn't need to replace the tranny if I go with the 383? Basically if I buy a new complete 383, what else would I have to replace to have a pretty decent high performance car?

Are you kidding? You've been given a link to a thread that likely tells you that everything is different, and you've been given the Cliff's Notes version to save time. Either take it at face value, or go read what is no doubt a long, drawn out thread. We don't need to rehash this again, if you're really interested it's already been discussed ad nauseum.
Further, this is posted in the wrong place... This is History/Restoration. Since you're not asking a history question, or a restoration question, your post doesn't belong here. Try the aptly titled "Engine Swap" forum, since you're asking about... wait for it.... an engine swap. Crazy isn't it?

sorry guys I'm new to this site! and to cars too.
I honestly don't understand everything about cars but know general things.
And I wasn't sure besides a tranny and engine if anything else needed to be done.
I just dont wanna get ripped off because I have a budget of a little less than $4k

I am sure you could do a V8 swap for 4k, but I have a V8 car and swapped to a LT1 T56 with a $5500 budget and ran out of money. It goes quick when you do things the right way. As they said, the differences between the two F-bodies is far greater than you expect. Do some reading on it, then ask clairification questions.
