Ditching the 6 for something better.
A TPI 350, out of a 1987 IROC-Z.

Paid $850 for it. It's rusty, so I'm pulling the motor, tranny, computer, harness, wonder bar, steering box, steering wheel, gauge cluster, sway bars and IROCs for my car. The car came with a set of 91-92 Z28 wheels and a set of IROCs.
The transmission is having problems, doesn't do anything when put in gear. We think it's something simple as the kid we bought it from didn't know much. Supposedly the tranny is a TCI 700R4, with a TCI manual valve body, a stalled converter and he installed a B&M Megashifter as well. We believe that either the shifter was installed incorrectly, or the valve body was installed incorrectly. We have us the old valve body as well. Motor runs fine, but the steering column is hacked up, need a pair of pliers to start it. Sounds awesome though, had a huge smile on my face when we started it up. It will be parted out after were done swapping parts over.
For the history on the car it is a true 1987 IROC-Z, with a 350. Came with just about every option, power seats, G80, B2L, KC4 and J65. (Can someone tell me where the engine oil cooler is? I can't find it.)
My car will be benefiting from a lot of parts off this car, might keep the rear I dunno yet. I've got a lot of mods planned for this motor, the trans should hold up if it really is a TCI trans. I'm super excited and can't wait to start the swap. Any input on the trans problem is welcome, I can use all the help I can get.
Eventually the 6 will be up for sale for you V6 guys, it has a Comp Cams 260H cam, 1.6 roller rockers, ported heads, and a double roller timing chain.

check the shift linkage first and foremost ive seen guys not hook that up tight enough so that when you move the shifter the linkage just wobbles around and doesnt engage, ive even seen ppl slam the car into gear and the bolts come off the linkage at the tranny, then they got now reverse, or no drive lol seems like somethings REAL wrong but its an easy fix, get under the drivers side and look at the shift linkage while someone is trying to shift it... start with the simplest stuff and move on to the more complicated... hope this helps and good luck sounds like alot of fun

i hate to lose a member of the v6 club, but I have to admit that if I found a TPI/T5 complete in a body that has been wrecked or rusted out, I would be very temtped to make that swap too
yeah, I'll be interested in your V6 parts when you're done with them. keep in touch and I may buy a whole bunch of them off you

Quick question for you V6 to 350 TPI swappers, how does the ignition get wired up? I'm not too sure on how it works.

Re: Ditching the 6 for something better.
Swapped the IROC's "Wonder bar", and sway bars along with the IROC wheels onto my car today. The car can corner like never before now. Next is the IROC steering box. Then 'll need some new shocks, struts, and springs.
Here's the IROC sway bar compared to my stock sway bar. This is for the front, top is IROC, bottom is RS.

Getting ready to install the IROC sway bar and "Wonder Bar".

And boy am I glad the IROC has new end links, look at the stock ones, just nasty.

All I got done today, pulling trans, motor, computer and harness out sometime this week. Going to sell parts off the car to buy a replacement until I can get this one rebuilt with all Corvette parts, and a shift kit. When the motor comes out I'll clean it up, make it look nice. I'll have pics up of the car on the IROC-Z wheels soon. Going to need to buy a set of 255/50/16 tires soon as well.

Well, I got the rad out of the 87 today, most of the wiring is unhooked. I need the knowledge of the guys who have done this before, what relays need to be swapped over?
Motor/trans are getting pulled Saturday, taking the trans to a local shop that will check it for free.
