'82 Camaro z28 big block swap
I recently did a big block swap in my '82 Camaro. For those that have done This swap before, I need to know what coil springs you guys used. Can I use the stock coil springs? Thanks for your time.

Re: '82 Camaro z28 big block swap
I left my Z28 springs in for a few years then swapped in some V6 springs for a while. I finally installed some Moroso BBC Trick springs.
What spring depends on how much weight they need to support. With the same amount of weight on the springs, a V6 spring will compress more than a Z28 spring because the spring rate is less.
You need to get the car across a scale to see what the front and rear weight is. If positioned properly on the scale, the front and rear weight should equal the total. With a BBC and a very gutted race car, the weight on my front tires is only 1785 pounds which isn't that far off from a factory weight. The lighter the front end, the less spring rate is required to hold the car up at ride height.
When walking through the junkyard looking for third gen springs, you measure the wire thickness. Not all third gens use the same springs. The smaller the wire, the lower the spring rate.

Re: '82 Camaro z28 big block swap
I need help from you guys. I recently put a 402 big block in my '82 z28 camaro. I bought the motor rebuilt with the transmission rebuilt together. The transmission was attached to the motor and it's a th350. I installed it into my car and I can't seem to get it to stay running. It has a Cam in it, I don't know the specs. It has a 770 holly street avenger. It will kick over, crank and start but it will die. Sometimes it will stay running for a minute or two and then it will die. Sometimes I have to hold the throttle a little bit and it will stay running, but when I let go, it dies. It has a big block stock fuel pump on the side of the block. Do I need to upgrade my fuel pump? Or is it a timing issue that I need to fix? Thanks for your time.

May need more fuel at idle. Or more idle speed. Or both. Get a straight screwdriver and start with the adjustment screws. Forget internal mods for now. Keep track of how much you turn them.
Once it stays running, set your timing. Then go back to fuel, adjust for maximum possible vacuum.

Re: '82 Camaro z28 big block swap
It was running great before I bought it. It has about 4 miles on it. The guy I bought it from kept his intake so we had to pull the distributor. He kept the alternator. Before I bought it, it had a 750 holly carberator. I tried a 650 eddlebrock but it was starving for gas so I got a 770 holly street avenger. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

Did your car have a stock intank electric pump? Using the mechanical pump to pull through a non functioning intank electric pump would def cause fuel starvation issues (even more so since you have a BB and those things are thirsty).

No it did not have a stock electric intake fuel pump. It had a mechanical fuel pump on the 305 that I pulled out. The BB has a new mechanical stock fuel pump on it. Do I need to get an electric performance fuel pump?
The eddlebrock carb was not new out of the box, it was off the 305. I have a holly 770 street on it now.
