engine swap 305-?
so i just got my 92 25th anniversy RS, it has a 305. i really dont like it at all, dosent give justice to a camaro in my opinion haha, so ive been thinking, get a 350 tune port and build it up, or just go all out with a 383 stroker. Not currently in the money position to do a 383 but im just wondering what would be the best bang for the buck? its worth putting the money into, the body is in good shape with no rust! so its deffanitly something i want to do.

Junkyard 96-2000 350 in decent shape; "Vortec" 4-bbl intake such as Perf RPM; TBI - 4-bbl adapter; 350 chip; 350 TB; 350 ESC module. Pretty straightforward.
DO NOT mess around with TPI. It is a left turn down a dead-end road into the weeds.

Re: engine swap 305-?
with respect to the cost, and you threw out $400-$800, yup, that will cover the exhaust cost. Another $800 to rebuild the 700R4 tranny which needs to be rebuilt because it will break wthin 50 miles.
oops, we haven't even touched upon a junk engine and then you must decide if you want to toss in a junk engine after doing that work or if you want to be sure it's reliable and open it up and do it correctly.
good luck, use the search and start saving your dollars, you're going to need them to do it correctly and reliably.

yea im gonna take my time, get a motor, go threw it, get it honed and dunked, rebuild it, and i dont want to stay with the 700r4, im thinking about a t5 from what i've heard and experienced with them they are good and strong transmission.

Is it a good trans for a stock 305, probably, is it strong? Not even close. years ago i had a cam/intake 305, slow the least, ran 14.6, and broke 3 T5's within a year lol
If your doing a manual conversion i would suggest a TKO or T56, if you get a engine and trans out of a 96-2000 truck you could steal the 4l60/80 trans, or just go with a TH350/400

Re: engine swap 305-?
well about the t5 your right, i had one in my s10 and it went out like a year after i had it, but my dad has one in his 88 turbocoupe and we have built the motor a little bit, cam, intake, and upgraded the turbo, he is running around 30 pounds of boost and he has had the car for like 5 years and no problem with it, and it has the t5 btw.
And if i was to take a motor out of a 96-00 truck i would more than likely steal the trans with it, but if im going to do that im gonna take my time and find a motor that already has a 5 speed, make stuff a little easyer in my opinion

Sorry, but 30 pounds of boost on a T5 would not last. I would have to put the flag up

Re: engine swap 305-?
I know of a site where you can get a remanufactured 350hp Chevy Gen I 350 with 400lbs tq, COMPLETE ENGINE with a 12,000mi 12 month warranty (or a 36,000mi 36 month warranty for $250 more). It’s called www.cmengines.com
383 Stoker for $500 more (425hp 500+tq). Once again, these are COPLETE engines. You can get just the block or whatever too, but the complete engine is only slightly more expensive one worth the money to have it done right and completed.
Anyway, if you’re curious, look at street performance engines.
People who have done business with them here have nothing but positive things to say about them.

Just trying to save you some hassle. If you put any decent power behind a T5 You will go through them one by one. Take what i say for a grain of salt, Its not my money
