383 swap questions
383 swap questions
the car was 400 dollars, has stock everything, minus the motor and tranny. i have a 383 and turbo 350 tranny. after i throw the motor and tranny in (coming out of my 85 camaro and goin into a 91) how do i even begin to rewire it, and what all do i need to do?
getting the motor in is the easy part just dont know what to do from there. car has stock wiring harness etc. is it just an easy hook up or what?

Re: 383 swap questions
What setup? Carb, TPI, TBI? How do you expect any of us to answer that question with barely any information. Either way you cut it it shouldn't be rocket science, simple SBC swap.
Re: 383 swap questions
my bad. at work and had to make it short. its a 383 roller rocker double humped heads, bored 30, 400 crank, gear to gear timing, its carb.
thats what i was hoping. never actually done this before.

Re: 383 swap questions
From your original engine bay wiring ( if still in place )
you need a wire to the coil and one to the starter plus the wiring for gauge senders in engine.
Some means of operating fuel pump and fans

Re: 383 swap questions
With it being a TBI originally, you could use the in tank fuel pump just be using a return line fuel regulator. You have to do that because the TBI in tank fuel pump has too much pressure.
Re: 383 swap questions
I'm not too sure what it originally was. I will check tom. Still working out the Details on the buy.I'm pretty sure since its been sitting with no motor or gas the tank ifor years, it's prob rusted out. Which means I will prob be switching the tanks as well. I would just swap interiors, but since mine is gutted, roll cage, homemade dash etc and my exterior literally has a dent on every panel it'll be cheaper to buy and swap.

Re: 383 swap questions
check out the carb swap threads, its basically the same process after you get the engine in the bay. (except youll already have the intake, carb, and dizzy)
