I have a discount for gmperformanceparts engines, need tips
So my uncles wife is one of the managers for langdale Chevrolet in town, and she gets like a 35% discount on engines and parts..... My 305 is to be honest, a super leaky (1 quart every 60 miles), super worn out (300xxx) miles, wimpy, smokey embarrassment that's hidden by polished aluminum and a small cam...
I'm looking at 350 crate motors and I'm looking at a ZZ4 HO and I've come to have a dislike for edelbrock carbs. Any tips or pointers on engines and carbs, also want to get a slightly more aggressive cam but don't really understand the duration and lift and so on. Basically I can tear an engine apart and put it back together and change the roller rockers and I kinda understand heads. So I'm asking for a point in the right direction haha.
It'll be going in my 85 iroc-z because as it sits right now, my fiancé refuses to ride with me and my friends laugh their asses off at me.
What I have right now is Hooker short tubes going into a custom y-pipe going to a knockoff thrush single inlet duel outlet muffler, no cat, edelbrock performer intake, edelbrock 500 cfm carb, comp roller rockers and lifters,
Holley 14 inch open element air intake, hooked to a 700r4 tranny with a shift kit and a 3200rpm stall converter.

What happened to the original computer q-jet that came with the car? It's a perfect match for the ZZ4 crate engine.

ZZ4 crate, 650 Holley double pumper (no Edelbrock or vacuum secondaries, please) with a TV cable geometry correcter bracket.
The intake and distributor that come with the ZZ4 will be fine. The intake is basically a GM-branded Performer (a Performer RPM would be a justifiable upgrade). The factory power and tach wires should hook up to the distributor.
Headers need to be 1-5/8" primaries minimum. Down pipes 2-1/2", everything after the Y at least 3". Not sure what muffler you have, but I've had excellent results with 3" single in/out Magnaflow and Flowmaster mufflers.
The stall of the converter you have is a little high, but at least won't hold the engine back.
If you look at the history of my Berlinetta #1 in my vBGarage, you'll see I basically had a ZZ4 clone with the factory q-jet. I did run a double pumper spread bore for awhile, but the q-jet was fine. A 650 Holley like I suggested will do fine, though.
Hope you have some means of locking up the torque converter clutch.
