Viper V10 engine swap in Firebird GTA :)
Viper V10 engine swap in Firebird GTA :)
Hi everybody,
I'm from Europe (Serbia), have Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA 5.7 and find one very cheap V10 Viper first gen engine in my country, so I decide to put that engine in my thirdgen
I know that everything is possible when you have money, time and nerves
I didn't see on forum that somebody has done this yet, just some threads with some questions about V10 swap, but without any pictures and informations.
Does anybody know what would be the main problem regardsing this swap?
I know that V10 is longer than V8, but as I see there is plenty of room under the Firebird hood. Maybe not enough without modifications, but I hope enough to put everything in it's place.
Plan is to put 6 speed Viper's transmission, so is there any big issues which may be encountered?
What about pedals, can I use Viper pedals or need to find some thirdgen pedals?
Also, my differential is 9 bolt Borg Warner, will it be enough for V10's 630Nm?
Just to mention that car won't be used for drag race or something like that, just for easy city driving
I suppose that there will be some issues regarding exhaust, but hope that this won't be the biggest problem
What about engine weight? I saw that first gen V10 viper engine weight 711lb (323kg) and block and head are aluminium. Is there big difference between L98 and Viper V10 engine weight?
Does anyone have some useful information that can help me regarding this project?
Thank You all in advance.
Best regards,
Nenad!

i can't give you much advice except i know that the engine would be at least 130lbs more than a stock iron small block, good luck though.
