4.3 Vortec without computer
4.3 Vortec without computer
I'm helping a friend install a 4.3 Vortec in a 58 Jeep FC truck. The one thing not wanted is the computer. What intake manifolds are available and what carburetor would work? Just want something that runs well, not going for 10-sec quarter miles. What other issues will I have if not using the computer?

Edelbrock 2114, you don't state what transmission he is using. That maybe the only concern with not having a ecm.

4L60E ? If so you can install a tcc lockup kit from tci 376600
Re: 4.3 Vortec without computer
checking the trans later today. I think that's the one. I heard about something called Compushift for about $1100. Thanks I'll look into TCI, don't know who they are yet.

Re: 4.3 Vortec without computer
Needs a controller for the "E" version as everything in trans is controlled by the PCM
Lockup kit only works with earlier T700 /4L60 which would be the cheaper option for the OP in this case.
Sell / swap the "E" trans from the truck for a 4L60 that only needs convertor lockup ; not a $1K controller
$10 of parts from Radio shack will get you convertor lockup function

Re: 4.3 Vortec without computer
It will not operate without the stock PCM or an expensive aftermarket controller
Seriously consider swapping it for the non-Electronic version
For a carb swap ,you can get the earlier T700/4L60 trans modified with a internal switch so you only have
to run 1 wire to it and the convertor will automatically lock up every time it goes into 4th gear
