350 into Mustang wiring (TBI, TPI, CPI eta)

So I picked up this 2.3 auto '86 Foxbody coupe for $500.

I plan to install a 350 with a cam and a few bolt-ons. I got this complete wiring harness (body and dash) out of a '99 5.7 Yukon Denali.

Now, I'm trying to figure out if this harness will work with the 350 I have now, which although came out of a ~95 Chevy pickup, which seems to have the same fuel injection set-up as the 5.7 from the Yukon, as the Yukon engine was swapped into the same truck this engine I have now came out of with no swapping of wiring (so the owner says). From what I've read, the 95 truck would have had TBI, while the Yukon has CPI. So as for the yukon engine to swap into the truck, my guess is the the truck would have been converted to CPI at one point in the past. The guy that sold me the engine (which needs a rebuild, rod knock) said the engine did have Vortec heads if that means anything.

I hail from the Import world and have never even touched a GM product, so I just need alot of familiarization with these engines and there wiring, lol. If anybody can point me to a single place that has alot of info for noobs I'd really appreciate it!

Been there, done that. Mine was an '89 Mustang 2.3L. Plan on severely butchering the firewall. I used the Moroso 62510 & 62610 solid mounts, then welded the lower halves to the K-member. Pull the valve covers and give us the 3ast 3 digits of the casting number on each head. 906 or 062 is good. 193 is bad. What transmission were you thinking of using? Easiest would be a Chevrolet 700R-4. You'll have to totally custom-fabricate a transmission crossmember, and you're looking at a custom driveshaft as well. You'll need a small-cap distributor, and it'll stiull require more butchering of the firewall. The whole deal is a mess and a mistake, I had mine crushed. Either sell the 350 and get a Ford 302, or sell the Mustang and buy a Camaro or Firebird. Better yet, sell the Mustang and buy an '84-'89 300ZX Not too challenging or costly to adapt a late 350 to a Nissan FS5R30A, which is plenty strong. So is the Nissan R200 rear. Plus that IRS is far better than our solid rears. They'll fit big tires, they have good brakes, and they're just more fun.

I'll be using the AJE K-member and mounts. From what I've read of people using the aje stuff things just bolted up with no mention of nodding the firewall or using a different dizzy. I'm also using the T-56 6spd.

Well, I AM using your engine, and this seems like a great place for info on that engine.

No good. The AJE setup puts more than half the engine forward of the front axle centerline. This is not acceptable, and results in dangerous handling at the limit. Look in our cars, only 1/4 of the engine is forward of the front axle centerline. This works very well. To get this in the Mustang, you have to butcher the firewall to get the engine back far enough, and at that point you can't use the AJE mounts. Sell the 'stang, or get a Ford 302 Windsor engine for it.

I really appreciate your help! But as far as the weight distribution, its not a huge issue for me. I was thinking of putting in a Toyota 7MGTE in it, and god knows that long engine would've been noise heavy, lol. It is tempting to simply swap in a 302 or 351, but everybody does that. I want something a little unique.

I just need to know if this harness I have will work, lol.
