i have 1986 chevy camaro berlinetta coupe ,it has a 2.8 in it now . i know that there is no fun in swapping engines ,iwant the 350 but my wife wants the 305 because on gas ,but if i went with the 305 i would beef it up any way ,but my question is witch one would be the easiest to swap and have the lease to change

Re: 1986 camaro engine swap just dont know witch one
My experience is that transmission and gears impact fuel economy more than the motor. My 305 GTA gets just about the same mileage as my built 350. 2.8, 305 or 350, I always seemed to stay between 18-20mpg. I'd never go through all the work & expense of a v6 to v8 swap just to stuff a wheezy 305 in. It's just not a big enough improvement to justify the effort and expense.

With all that said, which is right, A 350 is the same to swap in as a 305. Neither one is necessarily any harder than the other. For the fuel mileage the question is what transmission and rear gearing. I have found also in my experience that the best fuel mileage I have seen has always been at just below the power range of the cam.

The last sentence couldn't be more true. The consideration is if a 350 vs a 305 given the power output of a 350 being more you end up using less.My suggestion is it nice to have the option of more power a 350 gives you.a o/d trans of you choice(700R4 or T56) along with using the wheel size and rear end gear ratio can be made up which one in your game plan. Here is the formula to see which rear end gear ratio.

Plug in .75 for the o/d.
